How to keep hitch cord centered on biner?

[ QUOTE ]
That looks like a nice buy @ $20. I have looked at the 'corner traps', etc on other companies websites and never been impressed. I have switch carabiner styles to help keep my 'eyes' from sideloading.

The 'rubber band' method was shown on the Hitch Climbers Guide to the Galaxy... right?

Anyone use one of these tools?.... review?

Been usung the tool for keeping 1" nylon slings on dedicated biners. also the "bands" are cut strips of bigshot tubing per Sherrill Tree.

I use the williams with 5/16" Beeline also and have found the spliced eyes migrating into the gate area aaagghhh!. I am going to throw some bands on my set up tonight and take it for a test spin tomorrow.

tie double or triple fishermans they work better anyway and you can throw them out with out feeling guilty. 5' 8mm op and triple fishermans two bandits above the knot the keep the tail in order and you are good to go for $7 and you can completely customize your length down to the mm if you are good with knots.

i haven't had any movement since i went to dfms. another thing you could do is use maxi coating it is kinda rubbery and will take up some of the slop in the eye too.

Here is a pic where the eye migrates to and one with the bands installed. I have to keep some seperation since the CMI pulley I am using has the two sides tapered together not parallel like the hitch climber. potential to pinch the eyes between pulley and biner under full load. I avoided the hitch climber due to it's price but know it looks like a possible safety issue so it is time to order one.

You might also try using something other than a williams biner for that application. The williams are mainly used and designed for usage with a muenter and rapping down even though we use them in other applications.

yeah, I finally got a hitch climber... I used the CMI for a long time. I bought a new harness, so I treated myself to the HC. Thanks for the pics.
Wesspur has a good price

I have a set of new Petzl Am'D biners do you think they would work better? They are much closer in shape to an oval like the Petzl OK biner or DMM. Your thoughts?

One option that you might be able to try that I didn't think about is to put the eyes in the middle of the sheeves. Not sure how it would run with that but I know some have done it with other pulleys.

Also I would switch to the Amd's versus the williams.

is it the Bees Knees?

As long as your climbline has a spliced eye termination. If (K)not, then it is Extremely hard to get your hitch cord to grab...

Anyways, I have found that some cut-up surgical tubing is a cheap and effective alternative to those rubber bands.

this brings up another concern besides side loading you carabiner.

That is exactly what I have been concerned with. I watch my set up for this as well, my and eyes show no sign of damage but I am afraid the day they get under the CMI pulley will be the day I take a fall. Hmmm not a test I want to take.

Here is something I am trying using two leather traps, The inner prevents the hitch eyes from going in the opening on the CMI pulley and being pinched while the outer trap keeps the eyes from migrating away from the desired central location(picture).
I tested this today and it functioned well but it is temporary until I get the Hitch climber.

Also does anyone know if the gate portion of the biner is able to pass throught the holes on the Hitch climber?

where can I find this?

scrat - take a look at how I was shown to set up a split tail. I was confused the first time I saw a Hitch Climber pulley.... everything seemed to be turned sideways.
Anyway, this CMI pulley set up turns out to be the same price as a HC pulley.
