How long does recovery take after removing girdling roots??????

Location

Hi,
I have a Japanese Ivory Silk tree about 7 years old.
I had early leaf drop along with stunted leaf size.
After seeing tree was planted to deep I excavated around the base of tree and located some girdling roots. I removed the most offending ones.
I was wondering how long does it take to know if the tree will recover of not?

Thanks

Dr. Gary Johnson...urban forestry professor at U of Minnesota...did some of the very early research on SGR's He excavated with a hose and shop vac. There were some 10" dbh lindens with off-color leaves. He got in and snipped off the SGRs during the summer. By the next spring the color of the leaves had darkened. Twig elongation was increased. Only variable...cut the SGRs

I’ve seen drought like symptoms recover within a month. Actually surprised the hell out of me. I’d say for the baseline to be some improvement by the next spring to summer. Biggest up in subordinated growth rate the second year, one maple is just starting to show the results from 3-4 years ago

We did a large sugar maple years ago. The upper crown was thin and had tip dieback.
Cut two girdling roots (trunk had a flat spot near ground).
Saw good results one year later. Good color and uniform leaf density. No more tip dieback.

I’ve done other trees that took longer to show any changes
