How does Coronavirus COVID-19 alter our workflow?

Honestly, we all had warnings. We all should have known that this was a possibility. I saw footage and coverage of Wuhan starting in January that should have shocked me, but didn’t. I was too complacent, too confident that this sort of thing could never happen in America. Wuhan is the 11th largest city in China. Which doesn’t sound very impressive until you realize that it has 4 million people more than New York City. And the footage I saw made it look like “I Am Legend”. Totally deserted, locked down. Why wasn’t I smarter about how serious this could be?

Been kicking myself daily about this. My good friend actually owns a survival shop here in town. He is what might be called a serious prepper. He has known and been warning about these sorts of things literally for years. It’s not that I didn’t take him seriously or that he was an alarmist. He was always calm and reasonable as he tried to explain to me and others why preparation was important. I suppose I was just unwilling to make the financial sacrifices necessary to get my house in order, especially considering what I thought to be the poor odds of something like this happening. His store has been sold out for weeks and I fully expect him to be a very rich man on the other side of this. He deserves every penny.

If anyone has any money left over for tree work in a few months I will certainly be prioritizing my preparedness.

Been kicking myself daily about this.

I've been talking about building a bigger pantry for canned food at the Osceola house for two years... but have been putting it off to deal with other issues. The wife and I decided last night that this project, and some expansion of the garden and small-livestock (rabbits and chickens) area was going to be our top priority.

I also have been kicking myself for not making this a higher priority. I seriously hadn't considered that the most likely use for preparedness infrastructure was going to be just waiting out a pandemic for a few weeks. I was more interested in not having to eat commercially produced food than in not having to depend at all on the grocery store.

We all should know better. It's so damn easy to get complacent and believe nothing bad can happen.

Yep. American's have been told for so long that we are somehow special and we actually believed it... Pandemics are for shithole countries... Were fucking America goddamnit...That kinda shit don't happen here...Fuck with us and we'll put a boot in your ass.

News flash folks. Were all highly expendable.....Get your shit together cause Tree-Jeezus is coming.....

I apologize for being misleading. You're right it does appear to be direcred more towards "landscaping" companies.

Cant tree companies fall into that category? Especially if you're providing a service to treat pests fungal or are removing/trimming a tree hazardous to the residence or dwelling? I think those services would be deemed essential based in the information provided.

However It does appear to be a blanket permission for landscape companies.
I finally spoke with the state this afternoon; as of 12:30 PM today they have deemed landscape companies and tree services to be essential businesses in PA, so we are open again. They recommend following precautions basically the same as what are listed in the article you posted.

Will do. I hope you shut down as well. We will be reopening Tuesday, and making some changes. As much as possible, only one person per truck. Nobody touches another persons truck cab. We will be doing the same thing with tools and equipment, assigning saws and such to people, and not sharing them. At the end of the day, everything that gets touched will be wiped down with a bleach solution. And of course, if anyone so much as sniffles, they stay home.

Sounds like a gblueprint

we were talking about the same rules as you mentioned on Friday

If we have a chance to go out and provide for our families we have to

Feels like survival mode or is it greed?

Sure don’t feel like greed

pisses me off

Definitely not greed around here! I can survive for a time without working, and for that matter the “vacation” would be nice! My employees can’t afford it, one just found out his wife is expecting their second surprise in two years (someone needs to explain to them how that happens?), and they need every dollar they can get. So for as long as people out there want to give us money to work, we work. But we work carefully. The additional precautions we are taking will cost extra time, materials, and diesel, but it’s worth the expense to be able to allow these guys to provide for their families.

We just had a 100 to 500 year flood so we're going from a skeleton crew to all hands on deck with the Streets and Storm Water guys included. Going to be one man per truck and use the same equipment and tools all week till cleanup is dlne

Well, my wife started buying a year's worth of TP from Amazon last year. She had just purchased a year's worth of TP about a month before everyone decided that TP was the bee's knees. All that to say, if there's any of you out there with a GRCS and a less than adequate hygiene, I can think of a trade that would rectify the situation.

I just had this conversation with a land conservancy employee. They isolate fairly well at work, but then have to share trucks and tools. They are on a pause to re-evaluate and are supposed to work from home... How do you tell someone who puts on boots to work from home?! Some do that well, some don't. You're strategy sounds legit up until that point where the rigging line gets touched by the climber and the ground guy... You going to saw off ten feet of rope every time you lower? Dip it in chlorine solution, especially if it is nylon?

If I had two grcs maybe. Sounds like I would need mine to load the TP...

Why is everyone buying TP? Our local newspaper editorial explained it this way...if people so much as cough or sniffle, it scares the crap out of them for fear that they have COVID 19. Hence the need for TP.
