How do you keep track of your gear?

As a periodic inspection by a competent person (as in competent thorough examiner, not competent climber).

I buy electrical tape in a rainbow of colors, and have several friends who do the same. All climbing gear gets a green band, all rigging gear gets a red band. If you want to date the stuff, add a second band (blue in 2005, yellow in 2006, orange in 2007, etc.). One former employer of mine "color coded" all of the trucks so we all knew where the gear belonged.

I keep track of my gear by being really organized. No labling neccessary.
