homemade pully saver?

Thanks for that video mr. etree. I didn't know you could do soft retrieve with the pulleysaver. Now, if only we could install from the ground....

3rd Pic, have it set up with a potential retrieval system, same or similar to that of the ART Ropeguide retrieval.

Hope you can make it work for you, Andy. Thanks.

Kevin, you posted a link that I thought might come up here...there are a few ways to set it from the ground. It's a bit more challenging in trees with numerous branches, but I would pull it into place with a throwline threaded through the retrieval snap and one threaded through the large ring. once it's over the branch, pull both ends of the climb line through the large ring, then pull the tail back through the retrieval snap.
Don't get me wrong...both ways work, but I wouldn't want to risk getting a bag stuck in the crotch in certain situations. There are times when it's a bit more reliable to thread it all from underneath.

Youngbuzzer, wondering if you may have had plans to pass the pinto through the large ring (if it fits?) to form a choker. Be careful of side loading that 8...it's not meant to do that. I think it's probably fine for a basket like the photos show.

etree,

The idea behind the set-up is to be set as a basket like in the photos, I've made others set up like a choker and there always seemed to be a greater risk of the pulley getting stuck in the ring or a large spliced eye. Just my personal preference/experience. I don't think the 8 will get side loaded but will see how it works. Haven't climbed on it yet.

Just finished my pulley saver. Pretty simple, see what you guys think.

Three things:
1. That's not a "pulleysaver" at all.
2. It looks like you didn't use a spacer in the pinto pulley and in that configuration you need to.
3. The figure eight is not meant to be used like that. There are far better choices for ring/pulley friction savers, like rings.

I think you should scrap it and start over.

I have seen a lot of creative ideas for the pulley saver but unfortunately they all seem to come up short when compared to the DMM pulley saver which at $185 US is really not that bad. I can't splice, and I admire that you guys can but I just want to get one that is tried and tested and works. Keep up the good work it is quite admirable. Paul.

I've never used the Treemagineer unit, but I'm sure it's excellent. I use the Shelter Tree version since it has more versatility, and Jim from Shelter made it. He's a much better splicer than I, and I trust everything he builds. The ring to ring piece is great for SRT instead of the climbing line captivating the TIP alone when not using a base tie. You can also switch right over to DRT when desired...Just another way to carry less around in the tree.

Sorry Banjo, guess I should have put it on the "custom friction saver" thread.

At the angle I took the pictures, you can't see the spacer, but it is in there because of the configuration. I attached a picture of it.

Also, I was going to use a ring but was trying to move the girth hitch up a little higher so it didn't hit the pinto and turn or twist the two out of alignment.

True, its not the best use of a figure 8 but its still a work in progress and I just have to un-girth the 8 and put a ring or whatever else on there. Hopefully that makes sense.

I got to climb on it today and it seemed to work fairly well, although I didn't try to retrieve it from the ground.

-Tyler

Yeah but it's been blown up a tad to make me look like a real tree climber. Photoshop and all that. Keep chill etree and keep up the good posts, I am learning a lot on here. Paul.

Not trying to derail this thread peoples but etree look at this sequence of three photo's of that same job. Excuse that I am not lanyard in and that the groundie did not let the piece run, new rope too many raps on porty and new DMM block. Too much in one day for groundie. That wood hard and dense like concrete ( Casuarina ). These trees make a great beach erosion and wind barrier tree, large root system and slow growing. They are planted on the island mainly it seems by birds carrying seed. Therefore you find them in the oddest locales. Paul.

Last one. Thanks for everyone's patience have a look at a exotic tropical tree, that bark is also like #10 sandpaper very unforgiving. Nothing special about pic's except that the tree might be new to you in the North. I love trees from all over, maybe one day I get to Cali and climb a great Redwood or even the Sequoia who knows. I can only climb what I got. Paul.

I believe the Z-133 (6.3.7) comes into play here...Are you self employed?

Well etree I looked close and fortunately I am lanyard in, check the last photo the safety blue cordage ( white ) is around the vertical spar, the one I am not cutting. I am self employed. Paul.
