hitch cord

So I'm about to hang up my wrench and give the HH a go......now that I don't have to splice i2is, I think I'll try out some different hitch cords as well.

I own 1/2 in climbing lines, Arbormaster mostly, and I doubt I'll ever switch over to 5/16" lines.

I have been using OP 10mm, and ice tail (when I didn't feel like splicing more OP). Anyone using 9 mm hitch cords on 1/2" line? How about 8 mm lines? It's never really worked out well for me before, but I don't know how much friction the HH takes off the knot.

I'm a big guy. 220 ish out of the shower. What are y'all's thoughts?

In my experience the HH took quite a bit of friction from the knot. I used 8mm armour prus on Imori for a bit and it worked great. I think Imori is close the 1/2 inch. Interesting it seems that big guys prefer the HH to the Wrench. I weigh about 150 and had trouble getting the HH to move a low angles.

If your using smaller diameter cord just add an extra wrap but I still prefer 10mm cord. Better feel and less heat to your fingers. Even with 10mm cord I'll put an extra wrap then fold it down so it's like a 6 wrap 2 braid. You don't have to cinch it so tight that way slack tending is easy and that extra braid helps the hitch grab.

Really, it isn't that I don't like the wrench. It beats the crap out of DdRTing all day every day.

I'm just thinking I may like the HH better for spar work (been doing a lot of it recently). That and while I am comfortable splicing my own i2is, the novelty of splicing has worn off. It has become a chore that I really could do without or at least a reduced load. Now that I know I am capable of splicing my own, I have a problem paying someone else to do it for me.

An extra wrap......makes sense. More cord to spread the friction around. Heat transfer to hand never really has been an issue to me as I regularly wear gloves. Had to get in the habit with all the conifers I've had resently. I'll try out some of the 8 mm cord then as well. The investment of trying different cords won't be as big of a deal now without the splicing.
