Hitch climber question?

Well I finally bought a hitch climber yesterday. This morning I realized that I recently cut the eye off my climbing line because of a few nicks in I just didnt trust. So after setting a line to try this thing out I figured out that my termination knot was interfering with my hitch cord. I then looked at the hitch climber guide and they dont recommend a knot for termination.
So, with that being said: Is my only option to buy a new rope with an eye, or is there a way around this problem? I have thought about splicing a new eye but have had a heck of a time splicing used line.
Any help is much appreciated!

To fully enjoy the Hitchclimber, one must use a spliced eye on one's climbing line.

This is the law of Hitchclimber climbing.

He who breaks the law, must go back to the house of pain!

I'm only assuming that you are using a double braid, But Samson has eye splice for used double braid instructions. I have used their instructions on Poison Ivy and it worked great. The finished splice just isn't as smooth as when you use the regular instructions.

Willbranch,

Thanks for the info. I think I might give this a try. I think a new rope is still in my future.

PS: My wife doesnt know that I dropped a hundred on two crabs and hitch climber. Thats why I love when customers pay cash!!!!

Hey Pstuffel, I have been using a HC with a termination knot for 10 months now. As much as it would be nice to have a splice it works fine without so long as you are using some type of long hitch (VT in my case). I use a Anchor bend on both velocity and PI. If you have the coin though grab a new line...I would be! Cheers.

The bowline is an inferior termination in this case. anchor hitch or a buntline may stay low enough to not interfere with your climbing hitch plus the are cinching knots that are safer in terminations.

i too use a knot with my hc, the double fishermans i believe its called...it works ok....i am climbing on tachyon/Lava with hrc...now is lava hard to splice because so far the line is lightly used and i have been using only one end incase i want to try and splice it on the end that is not had any weight on it

It's not easy to splice for a beginner, but if you give it a shot, you'll probably figure it out.

Do you already understand the double-braid splice?

I guess I lack patience. I've cut off all three of my attempts (two on Fly and one on Tachyon). A couple were close, but very ugly. The first one was a rat's nest.

Bought some velocity yesterday with the splice of course. (thank you great ape gear cache). Still getting used to the setup after moving over from a micro and two attachment points. So it is a little akward. But with a new rope and a new HC the rope runs real smooth.
