hi-v vests

I started buying orange shirts and sweatshirts several years ago and they show up very well. When we did the Vermont Flagger Certification program last year they were calling for the yellowish green reflective vests with the reflective strips on them. The vests are cheap, lives are priceless! Some of the scariest moments have had doing tree work was working as a flagger back in the '80's!

Don't wear them around the conductors, but everywhere else. Our Apprentice didn't want to wear it on the Right Of Way but I told him that hunters know that deer don't climb trees or wear Vests (yet!) so they wont shoot us!

In the warmer months, I usually wear a Camelbak when climbing (or on the ground for that matter). For safety's sake, I choose the Camelbak Hi-Viz:

It doesn't quite have the visibilty of a vest, but it's pretty good with the reflective stripes.

After reading all of this thread, I'm inclined to agree!

Why not?

I'll have to get me one.

ha, i dont need to, my boss bought me some bright yellow sweat shirts for the winter with his name on it, now when he is talking to the customers he can tell them that if they have any questions they can ask the guy with the bright yellow shirt on, they are brighter than the sun

I have three hi-ve vests, with reflectors, in the truck. I use them for many purposes:

I make my groundie put one on if I have to make a awkward wide turn into traffic.

Or, if I have to back into a driveway and I'm going to block traffic temporarily. (It is amazing what a bright vest does. It is kind of like a superman cape. You can stop vehicles fast with the vest on)

I feel more comfortable working on the golf course with one on as well.

If we are in a more narrow stretch of road chipping it is nice.

I like them also when I do a crane removal and I have a lane of traffic blocked off.
