Hey Devildog, you made the front page

I was having lunch with a friend today down in Ridgefield and saw you guys made the front page of the Ridgefield Press for rescuing Rodney. I saw the picture and bought the last copy of the paper that they had.

Holy crap Devil Dog! that sucks...

I do cat rescues time to time. never seen the need to use spikes though.

I dunno, my cat goes crazy anytime I bust my throwline out to try and undo a knot. If he was in a tree and saw it coming he would probably jump out of it after it, no need to climb and for sure no need to spike.

But also my cat is fat and lazy and I doubt he could climb a tree...

would you break out the sling shot if your friend was stuck in a tree?,,, lets talk about murpheys law,, my spikes are always next to my saddle, i have three rules ta tree work..first me and my crew , the trucks second , and the property is third.....the tree guy is more important then the tree,,, and i love cats ... i would spike your moms dogwood to save a cat,,,,,

yea we rescued rodney the black cat. I wasnt there but the other owners were. From the picture and from what they told me it was rough terrain to throw a shot and it was in the middle of the woods. We will try harder for you all next time.

But the owner was happy and no one got hurt.

I've spiked a cat rescue, pecker pole pine with a split top, no decent limbs for a throwline and no taller surrounding trees. Cat had been there over a week... I didn't hesitate.

so,.... you are saying it's more dangerous to climb without spikes?

that, you are putting your life in jeopardy if you don't use spikes?

If that is true, then you really need to work on becoming a better climber and learn some things.

How did this manage to get onto the front page of the paper though?

If there was a house or other property under the tree...spikes may not have been the best choice,

but, getting the pet down safely was a concern to the owner, in the end, they are HIS trees right?

his choice.

still ,nice work in getting it back down, looks like a rough landing if it tried to bail

I think what he was trying to get at with the whole safety first things was, he didnt want to have a miss throw that bounced off a lead and hit the cat. Personaly I could care less if the cat got hit or not. If it is too stupid to come down and eat then so be it. If the owner cares more about the cat then the tree then spike the tree that is in the middle of the woods who cares. Before anyone says it, no I dont like to spike a live tree. There is a time and place for everything.

obviously you do not own a pet! people actually care about their pets and will go to extremes, as a business owner and trying to get new clients i have found that most people can tell if you are really trying to save their pet that they love or if you think they are stupid for going to the extreme.... then you probably would not get called back for another job. so maybe this guy actually did care he would hit the cat.
