harnesses

I hate to say it, because I wanted to love it, but I finally got to try on the ergovation, and it is heavy, heavy, heavy, as in really really heavy, TOO heavy. It is also very complicated at the outset to adjust.

Then I tried on a treemotion for the heck of it; I always thought it was a guy's,/x factor/transformers type of saddle, cool enough, but...you know...not for me.

Well, it was pretty much a dream come true. It is lightweight but tough, it conforms and supports, it is elegantly simple and straightforward to adjust, the D's are things of beauty and utility, PLUS it has that cool, superhero thing going on.
You get to put your attachment points wherever you like. For instance, I have never understood why people put their first aid kits on the small of their back, (notwithstanding the back support factor) that's kind of an awkward reach in an emergency for me. I like it on my leg strap, with my phone on the other leg.

Anyway, the one issue I can see might be with the waist sizing, since there is only one size fits "all" with the treemotion, so I don't know how small it really would fit.

Hi! I was thinking of buying an ergo. Getting out of the Weaver Cougar and I tried it on at Sherrill today and fell in love. I do mostly pruning and a few removals.
Good "all day" harness?
I think its worth the price tag but would like some reassurance.
Thanks!

Hey Beechluvr
Yeh it is definately an all day saddle whether wrecking on spurs or pruning. If you fell in love with it consider you can really adjust it to you for things like heavy clothing in the winter or say a hawaiian shirt in the summer. Just kidding about the shirt ;-)
of course I really like the Sequoia, my summer light saddle, as well and would love to try a treemotion too.

Oh and I can't compare the cougar to the ergo since I tried a cougar on the other day and although it appears to be a robust saddle it is all wrong for me...bridge too short to be useful...leg straps too high and in the crotch as well as feeling pulled together in the front...oh yeh the lateral dee rings are to far back and would generate painful hip squeeze. But the price was awesome

I keep hearing this about the TM.. it's like the freakin holy grail or something.
Are you getting one?? If you get one, will you send it to me and let me wear it for a day? I PROMISE, i'll send it right back!

Seriously, I'm wondering if i should just save my pennies til I can invest in one... I'm pretty interested in getting something uber comfortable if it's gonna be cradling my beehind for the next few years. Not interested in paying my dues where a potential pain in the azz is concerned. And I like the super hero factor muy much!
Keep us posted

I am saving for one as we speak, although the bean counter at turbotax isn't giving me any immediate hopes. Life is too short to justify chump stuff, unless you really have no choice, which actually happens all too often! Also I have noticed that life gets shorter as you get older.

Keep me posted on your whereabouts, and I will let you know if/when I make it back down to Pittsburgh for a visit; and when we cross paths you can take it for a climb!

Wait! There's more in the re-edit...I need to clarify that the ergo is most definitely NOT in my chump stuff category. It is obvious when you touch it that it is both meticulously conceived and built to last; it is just heartbreakingly heavy.

What you need is a few more choices ! Ha Ha Ha

I can bring a Kolibri (my primary, super adjustable & super comfy); and a Sequoia SRT to the OH TCC.
Let me know if you're still interested then.

Ciao for Now !

Hey Greg,
Choices are goooooood.
Bring them along, love to give 'em a go. I've never even heard of a Kolibri, looking it up.
Thanks, look forward to meeting you!

I like your "tree sloth" tag... I think that fits me as well :)

Kolibri is a German harness.
Should be lots of Tree Buzz previous posts, just do some searches. If you can't find enough info, let me know.
Ciao !

I'm not as pretty as any of the WOTT but would like to check out the Kolibri...it is a saddle I have been interested in. Is there a distributor on this side of the pond?

Here is one recent link to a Kolibri supplier.

I bought my harness & suspenders from Fresco. I don't know if they are still in business.

P.S. The Kolibri is MUCH lighter wt than it looks.

awesome Kelly, that would be cool. I used to get up to Portland every summer... (my ex-husband's family has a cottage on an island in the Casco bay, off Harpswell) maybe I'll get back there soon, who knows? Love the area.

BEST OF LUCK snagging that TM for yourself! Just remind your "accountant" it is a necessary business expense!

Hey Laurie! Thanks for the info. I also highly enjoy this type of shopping. Im getting a student discount as i am between semesters up here in Canada at Humber college for arboriculture. Might as well take advantage while I can! I agree with the mtbk relation. I am looking at it with that in mind now too. Might try some other types on like the sequoia.

Happy Climbing!

Sequoia is a great light harness, and the webbing in the back gives you some neat spots for tools. I have the SRT version and I take full advantage of the webbing attachment for a chest croll. Hit up the other suppliers rather than Vermeer like Commercial Solutions which is just off Dixie Rd. North of the 401. or Shepherds Utility out in Pefferlaw. It's kind of out in the boons near Lindsay but they're shipping is dirt cheap and Kirk their forestry guy is the bomb, he just ordered me in 150' of Yale IMORI on my word that it existed(It's not even advertised on their website yet). I saved about 200 bucks ordering in my Sequoia from Commercial Solutions, and I saved about 300 on my spur setup that I paid for in cash from Shepherds, probably about 60 or so saved for the IMORI and thats with shipping from the states and shipping from them to me. And both of those suppliers give you the 10% student discount that Vermeer offers. Just let them know your a student and show them your student ID.

Cool, Beechluvr! let me know what works out for you... & thanks for bolstering up my mtbike rationalization ;)

the last post has some great info too, this is all really helpful. I'm liking the borrowed Butterfly2 I've been using. Looking forward to trying out some others at the Ohio TCC later this month. People here are generous w/ info & gear. Sweet.

Do not know if you bought your saddle already but I now sing the TM praises. I resisted the TM because I thought it had too much plastic looking grap on it. But it looked like it is shaped like it could fit me. Then the last take down I did, I was so fatigued due to my saddle. I finally broke down and got one, DAM!!!! The TM is@##$%%^*^&& Great, It is good to climb around in but Dam, it is when I spent a couple of days of on spurs, taking down some good sized trees that I really fell in love....and I feel fine! YEHAY Found a saddle that fits a female frame, or at least mine.

Hey MLR! Why don't you post some work pix? It would be cool to see some more "chick on tree action" around here.
Oops, I make my self sound gay like that! I'm NOT but I DO think you should post some pix! Get in the calendar and maybe the next TreeBuzz vid.

I've heard so much about the TM. I don't think I can justify a performance saddle for my level of competence just yet. My work one I can wear all day no problem anyway. I want a super light one (doesn't have to be fancy) for travel, rec climbing and comps (yes I said comps plural!). Thinking about a Black Widow for that.
And I REALLY want a steel core lanyard for removals. Now that I tried one I WANT!
