Happy 1st National Tree Day, Canada!

We mowed down a chinese elm :D

We have Arbor day in Canada too. Two days dedicated to trees, which is awesome. Next Arbor day I think I'm going to book off to volunteer my service somewhere, as we don't do anything for arbor day at work. I celebrated by passing my CA test, so I guess I contributed something :D

Nice.

There may be an Arbor day in Ontario, but there isn't in BC, or Alberta from what I remember.

Check out the link...this week is the National Forest Week, and this is the first time in Canada's history that there has been a national day dedicated to the tree.

I took the whole week off in celebration of National Tree Day. I could make it an annual event.

We used to have an Arbor Day in Sask but it was in spring, a better time for planting. This isn't bad though. Are the provincial ones going to continue so we can have two holidays?

Past Arbor Days we oversaw volunteers planting native trees at Downsview Park on the site of a decommissioned airbase in the north end of Toronto. Usually 1500-3000 trees! On one particularly beautiful day we had people waiting in line for about 2 hrs for a chance to plant a tree. Way cool.

I can see the big ceremony now:

"The TreeBuzz canucks contributed -4 trees to this past national tree day! err... wait what?"

I guess we still are a bunch of lumberjacks and hockey players... noo doot aboot it.

We live tree Day pretty much every day this is more for everybody else really. IMo.

Got soaking wet in the rain cabling three Colorados together just to learn the neighbour is going to cutinto the root system a few metres from the stems.

Neighbours! Take Off Eh!

This is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of trees in our communities and about the arborists who maintain them. Also a great opportunity to generate some goodwill in the communities which sustain us yearly.

Next year will be a bigger deal, more time to plan. I only found out about the day 3 weeks prior. Scrambled to get a plan together. We didn't get to do everything we wanted, but it worked out well, the school was ecstatic.
