Handbuilt Ascender

It seems like you could start with the CT foot ascender (right foot for the right hand so you could disengage it with you thumb). The gauntlet would be nylon webbing or elastic and 4" wide with a thumb loop ( imagine the Gecko leg strap and a roller blading wrist guard combined without the plastic support). The cam would be a reached via a loop that would sit at the base of you hand where it joins to the wrist. The back of the cam body would have velcro on it and would adhere to the palm and velcro on the front of the cam body so it could fold down and stick to you wrist when you don't need it. Maybe I'll draw a picture later.

While we're at it, how about a tsurugi scabbard for you for arm that with the push of a button the blade deploys out of it like a switchblade (straight out)... X men meet Arbos

'Stand up next to a mountain (of a tree); saw it down with the edge of my hand'

-Loosely quoted from Jimi Hendrix' Voodoo child.
I think you've got it right.

I don't like the idea of having my hand 'tied' to the line. Imagine pushing the ascender up to the tip of your reach and not easily being able to 'let go'. Maybe there could be an eject button.

I'm pretty sure that's why it's never been developed. I would think a Pantin style ascender (easy to kick out) would be essential. Or as long as it was released after the last step up with a foot ascender...

Two words . Grippy gloves . :)
Edit:
But I do like the open source that's just my idea .

I hope it gets out soon. I'm really stoked about the process of all this, and for all the input from everyone. Man, anything I can do to help out my hands. I want to do this for a LONG time.

But apparently they are going to have more 'sophisticated' forms of walking aids by the time you need them.

Add some ascenders onto that and you might get somewhere.

I just ran in to a friend who is doing some stabilization work on a bluff. He was complaining about how his hands hurt. He's rappelling from a figure 8, and just hand over handing it to go up. I walked him to my truck to show him my handled ascender, and I so wish I could have pulled out my oceans multi tool ascender.

Geez John, now you got me thinking we'll just have hydraulic legs. We'll be able to jump up to the first crotch in the tree. Gives a whole new meaning to 'installing a line from the ground'.
