Why is that stump cut so shinny? Is it petrified? Thanks for the pics.

I don't really know. I don't remember it being petrified though.

Been a long time since it was cut. And I think a lot of people have been climbing over the surface. That and time and weathering.

That's the old stump by Howland Hill Rd. in Jed Smith.

Compare to this stump near Avenue of the Giants, near a campground. Has to be time and wear and tear.

That stump is what's left of the tree that fell off the bank over the Howland Hill road, right by the Jack Breen Bridge in the mid 80's. It broke the bridge a little. The park service closed the bridge for a while, and then decided to go ahead and open it without repair. Other than closing off the east bound lane by installing a guard rail.

Nice Pics! You must have more?

I have a few more I can put up. I think I took all of those with my old Blackberry. The newer phones are so much better at taking pics. I'll bring the Canon EOS on the next trip though.

I'll try to post some more soon. Lets see some of yours, niceviews.

Probably Human. Did you check to see if it contained small bits of partially digested granola bar or nut bar?

It was yours, wasn't it?

I now actually remember coming to that decision...that it was probably human. Man, that makes it worse! Guess that's pretty common, huh?

The worst site I saw on my trip was in a fire cave on the backside of a giant. Poop and poop paper. Makes me sick how some people treat these places......
I'll get some pics up hopefully next week. Took a couple thousand, so it's taking me a while just to look through them all.
