Getting Paid less than crew?!!!?!?!?!

Unfortunately, "ISA Certified Arborist" doesn't mean much.

I take offense about your attitude. Disrespecting knowledge without having any is contempt prior to investigation.
What? can't get your cert? Maybe you can set new standards. Actually cert Arborists should get paid for the knowledge. Not doing the trimming. Cert tree workers do that. WE gain knowledge through People like Todd Watson and pay for instruction seminars. They call this CEU's. Don't insult education it means you reject knowledge. To reject knowledge puts those who do in the fool category. We worked hard for our C.A.'s and to keep them. I want my BMCA in a few years.Save yourself. I wonder if a Cert. Arborist trained you. Know what a branch collar cut is? Co-dominant included bark formation? vassal cell? Stomata? Stomate?Guard cell? Why the outer canopy stops its photosynthesis on long hot days? Get certified and set new standards. Live up to your own expectations of a cert. Arborist.

Well at the end of the day,the guy who is making the employer the most money, usually takes the most money home.If your Boss feels that your co-workers ISA cert is worth more the company than your skills then thats the way it is.I suggest filling the gap beween your qualifications and your ability and do some study to become certified.

FAMILY WE ALWAYS ARE GOING TO ENCOUNTER SITUATIONS THAT ARE NOT FAVORABLE. I TOO DEAL WITH THIS EVERYDAY AND FOR SOME UNMENTIONABLE REASON JUST TURNED DOWN THE BEST JOB OFFER EVER. I CONTINUE TO WORK HARD BECAUSE HOW COULD ANYONE GO HOME KNOWING THEY DID NOT DO THE BEST THEY COULD?

It can seem unfair when you excel at something but don't have the credentials. That is the way the professional world of work goes. Engineers, doctors, architects, etc..., all face the same thing.

You mentioned that he would pay you $.25/hr more than the other climber if you were certified. That's a dollar more than now. What you may want to ask him is the top rate he's willing to pay and what you would need to do to obtain that. If it's less then what you feel should be paid for those skills then start looking elsewhere.

It's your work history that moves you forward. What you do or don't do is how other's will judge you and whether you are truly worth more.

this is so true. When i first got to the place i am at now, there were two guys on crew that wouldn't talk to me cus i was the white kid from college. I tried every day to be nice to them but to no avail. so i said fine, i'll earn their respect. We show up to some jobs with biger removals and i don't wait for them to go for their gear. I've already got stuff ready to go and show them boys whats what. They applauded me a couple of times for a tough job well done. That was kinda cool. the only two problems with moving up that way is you run into getting elected to do all the tough jobs, which is sorta a blesing in disguise, and those guys on crew don't decide how much i get paid. the manager does, and he never sees me work. so goes life. appreciate it while you got it.

Hey Curtis, check a poster's personal profile before you reply and it'll keep your foot out of your mouth.

WOW you're right... my foot fits well, steel toed boot and all .
I have heard people say the C.A. test is too easy. I was wrong and I .... apologize for my diarrhea of the mouth... I'll take some mouth-a-magnesia. It'll probably happen again

I've come to the realization that it is impossible for me to stay with my boss for the rest of my career because there is no long term plan set up for his climbers/workers. No 401k, not so great medical insurance and I work half on the books half off so I will never get approved for a morgage.

Hey familytree, based on the numbers your crew made taking down the large oak in 4 days from your other thread, it would be easy for your boss to set up the crew with SEP or 401K. Working half off the books will not only keep you from a mortgage, but if you get hurt, the worker's comp payments you would receive would be lower than what you deserve to receive if he were paying you legit. Meanwhile your boss is saving alot of money on comp insurance cuz he's under reporting.

cory, you couldnt be more right, but it will never happen, ive done the math, i know how much we bring in everyday, i know what our total costs are to run the company, heck i even know how much he makes a year even though he tries to lie about it (get your boss drunk and you hear way more than you ever want to)

he isnt willing to sacrafice those few bucks, it would be cheaper to replace me with someone else who will spike everything, top everything and be a yes man. the only reason im still here is because its a guaranteed 40hrs a week all year long, no part time in the winter or snow removal but i get to climb everyday of the year and this is helping me become a great climber, no down time, only climb time, eventually ill leave when i find the same work situation with a better employer

I think you may have misunderstood me. I think it is great that u have that work ethic and I share the same. I too know so many that walk around with the wheelbarrow collecting all those bills flying around in the air.

Nice way to welcome yourself to a party..

Geeeez!!

Hey again Curtis,

No problem man! I see you are passionate about arboriculture... so am I. What I meant by my comment is that ISA Certification does not guarantee good work or ethical practices. We still have to police ourselves when it comes to that.
