Gear you replace the most

Just wondering what gear everyone seems to replace the most. My ropes seemed to take a beating this year as did my fliplines.

I'd like to find out what climbing and rigging gear everyone seems to keep buying.

Ropes/lanyards. Some years it's throw bags and line although I used one bag and line all year until the next to last job before shut down. Now it sleeps with the eagles.

Saw chain can't count. Otherwise you're heading us down a slippery slope of inclusiveness. What would we include next: gasoline, bar oil, underwear, coffee? I think we need a ruling from a moderator before this thread spins out of control.

Marc H is riding herd on where he wants to take the thread.

Expendable gear like gloves, safety glasses and small bits get replaced but I don't even think of their life span. These are things that go into the trash when they can't work for me anymore.

Most of the time it seems like more of my gear is replaced as an upgrade even though the old gear still has plenty of life in it. Ropes get used up until they're shorter than 10'. My canoe and kayaks are hanging from the ceiling on retired climbing lines so they really are still in service in a way.

definitely gloves..gotta keep the hands nice for the ladies

Gloves! Tho a buddy gets me free nitril coated gloves that great for footlocking.

Throw balls....grrrr yes they take a beating but then should be designed AND made to withstand that for a greater length of time.

climbing line. Just seems to get chewed up regardless of how much care I take...

those of you who wear gloves so much, have you thought about not wearing them? it hurts at first but within a week the calluses take over and your good to go, now that its winter on the other hand thats a different story but ive yet to have to wear any thus far, figure i will have to for about two months but ill still be saving a ton of money

Gloves not only prevent a lot of injuries the proper sort greatly enhnce one's climbing effeciency. All those he-men who don't need gloves truly do not know what they are missing out on. Even with gloves I have calloused hands but at least my wife doesn't refer to them as Alligator Paws. The diffence wrought by wearing sticky gloves compared to rope climbing barehanded must be at least equal to a weight difference of 50 lbs-probably more.

I've tried lots of different gloves, I wear'em on pines but I always end up tossing them if I wear them when I'm moving around a canopy. It's not a he-man thing, it's about sensitivity... I'm still a rock climber at heart.

Now, as for underwear, I never wear the stuff unless it's really cold... and that IS a he-man thing.

I go through split tails, not because they wear out so much as I like to splice so I've always got new ones in the bag.

I've gone through lanyards, 4 or 5 in the last year. I'm on my third rope this year, I've had bad luck with ropes and polesaws. I still use the first one because it's a ninety footer now and it's a great length for pines and mid-sized oaks.

I just busted my first forestry kit and it looks like I might could use an MCL replacement in my left knee.
