Gear bag-must be backpack

For several years I've been using the Fresco rope pack:

I took off the shoulder straps and sewed some curved and padded straps from a backpack. The rope pack does work nice. My rope,helmet, gloves and glasses go in the pack. Two Falseheimer cubes in the sidepocket, Silky in the other, extra things in the front.

This leaves me carrying my harness and some other bits and pieces.

I'd like to find a front loading bag with good shoulder straps and suspension like I'd find on a proper backpack.

Duffle bags could work but it would have to have good shoulder suspension.

What do people use for gear bags? One pack to hold all of your climbing kit for a given day.
 
Black Diamond makes a "Huey Gear Bag" w/ shoulder straps.
I bought a 100 L cap.
Originally I bought a 150 L .... it was WAY TOO big.

It does not have an internal frame, or hip belt.

But it does have shoulder straps, bag end reinforcement straps, & side D-rings.

I had a fresco back pack and it fell apart quickly. I now use a Black Diamond Stubby haul bag. It fits all climbing gear and ppe including spikes. It has been a great value. I also have a small Metolious haul bag. This carries all ascending gear. It has also been great. I,ve thrown it out of trees especially crane removals houndreds of times. Still perfect.
 
Great question, I've been looking for a new gear bag as well. I've been looking at some different styles of hockey bags, very durable, some have wheels and some are backpack style.
 
I don't use any particular bag, but I've found I can almost always find one or two good bags at thrift stores for 5 bux or less. Sometimes I have to hit two or three stores to find what I like, but I've gotten in the habit of looking whenever I have a chance and buying whatever I see that looks useful. I recently got a really nice leather-like bag that stands open on its own--perfect for piling in a line.

As the man who keep gear in a pink suitcase, I would think this is the perfect source for you.

Small and medium haul bags are about as close as I've found.

My first decent backpacking pack was..is, I still have it, a Lowe Expedition. About the second or third year they came out. A great,huge pack but it's a top loader. Not real user friendly at times.

I stop at thrift stores all of the time...made the rounds today infact, I'm on a mission to build bed frames for my nieces...but I haven't found a pack that I like. Maybe I'll attach shoulder straps and a waist belt to a suitcase and shuffle on down.

I appreciate the economy, but even more I appreciate quality and durability. It always costs more, but I've never regretted buying the better option. I often regret having gone the cheap route though. Plus, I hate shopping, so buying once and having it last forever is a good deal for me.

I currently use the fresco bag for work. When it involves longer gear-hauling, I use the Mountain Hardwear Phenom. Not perfect, but it is streamlined and doesn't mind getting hauled up a tree. It has a 3 point suspension system for real vertical hauling.

I got that bag for free. If I were to buy one, it would be similar to the Bora 65 by ArcTeryx. It has a zipper down the front for faster loading/unloading.

I'm using a Camp Trails blackjack pack http://tinyurl.com/3z6d5v.

I think I paid $50 from campmor.com pretty cheap for a pack with these features. Top/front load, hipbelt, decent suspension...

It's nice to have the hipbelt when your pack weighs 7,000,000 pounds!

To the best of my knowledge, it's not available in pink. Sorry.
