Fungus amungus

Zaphod, very interesting my quess is Coriolus versicolor, there are not that many fungi that produce such a stacked or layered effect in their fruiting body. Trametes versicolor can do it in certain circumstances, and look a bit similar to yours but that is such a familar fungi to most arb people I think you would have picked it.

We have a similar fungi here that occurs largely on Eucs.

At first I thought it might be turkey tail (Trametes) but it may also be Climacodon or northern tooth. If you slice vertically through the body, Climacodon will show a toothed spore layer.

A clearer photo would help, I can't make out alot of detail onyours.

Nice one mrtree Climacodon efflorescens was the fungi I alluded to that we get here on many Eucs, hadn't really thought of the N American version but far more likely than my quess.
Photo is of C. efflorescens on Euc intermedia
