Friction Savers....PulleySaver

If you have the spacer then you could splice it like the pulley saver is.Otherwise you would have to splice them directly to each lobe ,like you stated.

This seems like a good place to mention that I just received word from NER....

they aren't expecting pulleysavers to available in the USA until late June.

Sorry what I meant was how many cycles to failure the rubber piece inside the eye splice might have untill it starts to loose its spring to open the eye? Looks like it probably won't wear out but it pays to ask.

How big of an eye would be ideal for the pulleysaver? I just received my pinto and am getting ready to make it

[/ QUOTE ]

Just made one with a piece of rubber in it with a 14 inch eye. I have to finish my retrieval end yet but it is turning out really well. Also spliced some 10mm Ocean Polyester onto the Pinto pulley

I also made one about an hour ago (also havnt finished the retrieval end) I used a small diameter plastic tube then slid a piece of a wire coat hange into (couldn't find anything rubber at lowes). I think I will be redoing it soon seeing as how when I put my body weight on it the pulled the tail and it would not come down :(

What kind of rubber did you use and where did you get it?

I used a solid piece of circular (tube) rubber that I got from my girlfriends dad. He works at a paper mill and they use it as a seal for different pieces of machinery. He got me a couple of diameters...1/4...3/8 and another one can't remember.

Put it in poison ivy and its great because the rope where the rubber piece is, isn't to tight. Just there so the eye doesn't close all the way.

Now this isn't finished yet. Have to stitch the large eye and finish the retrieval end like stated above. I also spliced that 10mm ocean polyester onto the pinto pulley. All the splices so far turned out well

lose the girth off feature with a 10 wrap prussic though

Not if you have the hitch set lower so it can turn vertical before it goes through the eye. I will have to give it a shot. I wanted the longer prussik so I could use it for other things.

Casey did you put the rubber through the core before burying it in the cover to make the crossover? Or did you make the crossover and then add the rubber after?

Planning to give this a go myself. May use 16 strand though, less complicated and easier wear inspection.

Looks Nice Casey ,,, Hey say hi to Arron he's back in Wisconsin... He could not handle the hot summers in SO-CAL

Yup it is in the core before it was put in the cover. Was really easy to do and actually doesn't stress the rope from what I feel because the rubber piece can be moved back and forth in the eye. The rubber piece is a solid piece of rubber can't remember the diameter of it. Question is whether it will be allowed at comps. The only reason I made it was because the pulleySAVER isn't here yet in the US.

Wow is that pinto rig ever efficient. In the middle of a small removal, climbing off the rig, and its scary responsive. Im pretty accustomed to ring and rings and most recently a ring and revolver, but damn, this thing is in its own league.

Had the same thoughts jeff...really like going from natural crotch to ring and ring...when talking about change in friction...just a world of difference.

Here is my second attempt at a custom pulley saver, no splicing skills included. It is a Sherrill footlocking prussic of an 8' length. The rubber tubing I used on the outside of the eye splice the first time around was not rigid enough to facilitate remote retrieval. The steel ring retrieves perfectly, but man is it heavy. Does anyone know where I can get a 3" aluminum ring? After it's set I don't have to carry it around the tree, but I'm not super excited about the thing flying at me from above as I retrieve it on the spar.

I recently finished my second attempt at making my pulleysaver. The first I used a small hollow tube (plastic) with a piece of coat hanger. Seemed like it was going to work ok but it has too much memory.

The second go at it has a steel braided cable (coated with plastic) inside the eye. I was worried about abrasion on the ends (wire slightly exposed) so I put super glue on the wire (to coat the tips) then covered both ends with shrink tube. Now this one seems to work out pretty good. I tested it in my tree out front. I set it up and worked my way down retrieving it maybe 7 times during my descent. I was able to hang it over a crotch and choke it on the stem.

The pinto rig has 8mm hrc spliced directly to it (eye and eye) I don't think i like the hrc though. It seems a little small when retrieving. I'm thinking about going to 3/8 tenex. I'm thinking the extra thickness in diameter will help with retrieving it.

I can't wait to put this bad boy to work! I'll get a picture up soon.

Casey - Those splices look great! very nice set up. I've been trying to get one put together as well but still lacking in my splicing skills! What are you thinking you will use for the retrieval end?
