Friction saver question

Hello to all I was just getting ready to splice up a friction saver and was wondering exactly how big I should make. I would like to be able to use it to work a spar using a prussik to adjust. As well as use it in place of my rope guide from time to time on nasty trees or when working for someone else so i don't damage my higher dollar equipment working for someone who won't pay accordingly. Suggestions on lenghts would be great thanks.

Or...make a setup that resembles the Rope Guide...

I like having a large HMS biner instead of the ring on a FC. This makes installation or changing TIPs so much easier, instead of having to rethread the rope.

What kind of pulley/clevis set up are you using on the latter of the two set ups tom?

The adjustable FC uses a screwlink and small CMI pulley. this isn't the super duty one that most people use for slack tenders, still a 5k# rated pulley.

The pic of the homemade Rope Guide isn't mine, I got it from someone's posting. Look at the gear that you have and then make it into a similar configuration

Ditto on what Norm said. I LOVE the ball locks...but when I am looking for hardware that is going to get yanked out of the tree, I look for something that has all metal parts.

I like a shorter friction saver that matches what I tie in to about 99% of the time. There will be those occasions where you see you'll need to tie in to something bigger. I've screwlinked 2 pieces of rope together, then put the prusik on the "other" piece of rope so I could tie in to a really big TIP.
