Friction Saver Question

I just made a new Adjustable Friction Saver with some tachyon. I am going to be using a locking revolver krab for the "large ring" and have used some 5.5 mm tech cord to attach the small ring. I have the loop of tech cord girth hitched to the small ring with a 4 wrap prussik for the hitch.

I am wondering if anyone thinks using this small diameter cord (which is rated to 5000 lbs) on a AFS is a bad thing?

If I am not mistaken you are going to have that hitch slip way before 5000lbs anyway so you should be just fine. If you put that much load onto that AFS then you will prob be in the hospital and be told what happend after you wake up.

I don't see how it would be a problem. I've seen someone else use tech cord for the same application, so it should work well.

Let us know how the revolver works out. I've been contemplating making a new FS with one, since it seems like it's slimmer shape might allow it to squeeze through some tighter spaces.

Personally, I would use a three wrap (six coil) prusik. Spreads the load over more surface area. Much easier to "break" the prusik and adjust it along the Tachyon.

Is that small aluminum (or steel?) ring marked with manufacturing and break-strength info? Who made it and where? If it does not have such information on it... don't use it.

Ranger- Im actually between a revolver and a quick-link rated to 5000 lbs, lock tighted and tightened with a wrench. the link is real slick for tight spots.

Tod- It is tied into a loop with the double fisherman/barrel knots that self tighten to eachother. then girth hitched around the ring and then looped around the tachyon to form the prussik. I girthed it to the ring for the specific purpose of lessening the ropes bend and to put a little more rope into the system.

Tree- double braid is much easier than 16 strand by far, especially with new rope... real smooth, give it a few go's before you throw your life on the line just to get a feel for it, if ya need any tips on making life easier during the splice just ask. PI is a pretty easy splice, the cover isn't quite as tight.

TL- I have a 6 coil on my lanyard for an SRT setup with my Trango Cinch, This was all i had left. I might have more I just haven't checked all my gear bags yet. That small ring is one I cut off an old worn down buckingham friction saver, I know the history of this ring personally since i have had it for about 4 years, and has been sitting in my splicing bag for 2. Thanks for the concern over the recalled rings tho.

Tech cord is actually 5mm.
I would use a triple fishermans to tie it into a loop. Call New England Ropes and ask them what they recommend??
The reply of "It's all I had left" is lame. If you want enough to tie it with a triple fishermans, PM me. I'll ship it to ya.

i stand corrected. 5mm it is. I have not seen any slip in my SRT lanyard setup and that is the double fishermans as well. Don't worry Norm, a buddy I work with has 10 feet that he has been hiding from me. I might end up using some of that.

Until then I will be doing low level testing on this with some good bounces.

the afs is great but definately go with the new steel rings the alluminum are kinda junk but i use it just as it came and it works awsome
