Rainbow is putting on a seminar on the spotted lantern fly which has been found in SE PA..
This bug is bad news for the human race...
How bad news is the SLF for trees though? I heard that it is devastating for crops, but not so much a concern for arboriculture. I have seen them all over, but the only trees I have seen being affected by them are the Ailanthus altissima... I attended a seminar at TCIA a few years ago and the presenter was not that concerned in our industry. But I agree they are bad news.

Attacking Ailanthus is the only good thing about the bug! Grapevines are the real economic concern. It is a tree pest...I think where you hear "crops" they are probably talking about fruit crops - several fruit trees (apple, cherry, plum, peach, nectarine, almonds....) are hosts.

There are several other tree hosts identified. Not sure how significant of a pest it will be for them, but they are a hosts:
*Oak
*Apple (pretty safe bet that includes crabapple)
*the ornamental Cherry would also be included
*Sycamore
*Maple
*Pine
*Walnut
*Willow
*Poplar
*et. al......
