Footlock Prussic Loop Length

I want to start footlocking. Never tried it before. I see Sherrill lists these in several lengths by 2" increments. ANy suggestions about how to come up with a length to get started? I have no idea what length I should have.

Make a test piece with 7-10mm cord.

Learn to tie a double fishermans. Make a loop that is as long as the distance between your junk and the tip of your hand above your head.

Learn to tie a klemheist / prusik. Set yourself up for footlocking. The loop should be long enough to have a few (~2) inches of slack when you are standing up in a lock with your arms raised to push the knot up. Not too much slack - you need to be able to easily reach it if you need to descend.

If it's too long, make it shorter. If it's too short, make it longer.

You should not be able to reach the knot when sitting to prevent an accidental spilling of the knot. When you are ready to descend you sit sown, install an 8, and take a lock below the 8 so you can reach the knot again. Otherwise the length is specific to your reach and the anchor on your saddle.
