Foot-mounted slingshot used to set traverse

moss

Been here much more than a while
I found that when I wanted to set a tree-to-tree traverse in the woods that hand-throwing was too limiting in distance and the path to the second tree has to be fairly clear to make the throw. To solve I designed a slingshot that mounts on my foot. It throws an 8oz bag on a flat enough trajectory to sneak by obstacles and get to a branch 50' away and probably further, haven't tested that yet. I put a small grapple on my throwline to go get the bag and bring it back after it's over the branch.

Here's video showing my first test up in a woods tree:

That blew my mind.

1st, I really really like the foot sling shot.

2nd, What a great tecnique and demonstrated very well in this video. Great job manipulating that thing through the brush.
A clear shot would be quite easy but you showed it can be done in the rough too.

3rd, I forgot

Thank you for making this.

I LOVE CLIMBING TREES

Well, I didn't need to change my diapers. It did make me stop and look (and swear) :-) When these things happen, it's always too fast to get a major adrenaline rush, and you quickly realize you're still there so no prob.

How did you get the rope off the limb of the 2nd tree?

It's set like a cinched running bowline only I used a delta screwlink instead of a bowline to make the cinch. I tied a throwline to pull the delta back when I returned to the first tree.

Of the cool bits on the video, my vote is for the use of the hook on the throwline. I'll be bending some wire ASAP to try to borrow that idea, seems that might be useful in isolating limbs from the ground too.
