So how did it turn out?Fried Oysters – Breading comparison
I recently saw a recipe that used ground-up Rice Cakes as a breading for frying.
So . . . . .
Oysters, drained & patted to minimize moisture.
Breading:
AP Flour – base
Egg wash
Breadings: 1) Panko, 2) Corn meal, 3) Rice cakes (ground up in food processor)
Frying:
Peanut oil at 385°F
Oyster batches: 2 min. fry; 2 min. drain
French fries: 5 min. fry; 2 min. drain

1) Panko overall best taste & crunch. So how did it turn out?
Sounds interesting
Not a chance! Do people actually eat those things on purpose?(Anyone want a partial bag of rice cakes ? )
When I was a kid, I used to like toast w/ lots of butter, then sprinkled w/ a mixture of cinnamon & sugar.Rice cakes can be good with cinnamon or peanut butter
Yeh, even when I bought them, I wasn't sure they would be any good: 0 Fat; 0 Salt; etc, etcNot a chance! Do people actually eat those things on purpose?
My mother used to buy those to feed to us on long car trips when we were traveling while we were kids. I’m not sure I ever ate a whole one, if that was the only available snack, I preferred to starve.Yeh, even when I bought them, I wasn't sure they would be any good: 0 Fat; 0 Salt; etc, etc
My grandmother used to make that for us on occasion, that brings back some memories! When I was a kid, I used to like toast w/ lots of butter, then sprinkled w/ a mixture of cinnamon & sugar.

3) Rice cakes poor 3rd. (Anyone want a partial bag of rice cakes ? )
That sounds very southern. Like, the part of the south my family hails from. Southern fried chicken breaded with crushed pork rinds and fried in lard. Just add a little bacon on the side and you’re good to go!Have you tried ground up pork rinds?
That is one of my wife's breakfast staples. My grandmother used to make that for us on occasion, that brings back some memories!
