folding throwline cubes

Before you buy, call them to make sure that the staves that give form to the cube have tips on their ends. Otherwise, the thin ends of the rods will work through the fabric of the cube body in very short order.

Ahlborn sells an inexpensive cube with tipped ends on the staves. I've got one and it works very well. I bought a couple red cubes from Wesspur a couple years ago. I don't like them nearly as well.

I have the Sherrill Fold and Hold cube that fold into a flat square but not the triangle and velcro closure. About $15. Been good to me for a few years. That one for $30 looks good if it is not problematic with the staves. Seems like the fold and velcro means not having to carry and store like a pizza (flat/ horizontal) to prevent tangling.

I've gone through 4 fold and hold cubes and each of them had the same issues, the rubberlike material on the bottom flakes off till it's like looking through an old screen door and the staves come through and cross one another when collapsing it for storage.

My sherrill cube lasted just about 2 years before the staves have started coming through the corners. Everything I've heard about the faltheimers make them sound pretty bulletproof. You pay for it though.

Wow, but for $25 the steins are definitely worth trying! Hell for that price ill buy 2.

I'm a very cheap guy. I'd buy the Faltheimer over any other cube. The others just don't last. Its worth it because you'll be replacing the others 3 or more times before you ever see any problems with the Faltheimer.

Personally though i just use a bucket. With cardboard spacers.

I have a 3 year old Sherrill cube that the stays popped through on after about a year. I fixed it with thread and shoe goo and it's still in my kit as a backup. I have Stein as my primary, I like that it's smaller but the plastic caps need to be glued on. One came loose early on and punched through... fixed that one too and it's working fine.

I bought one of the cheap ones like the Ahlborn one at TCIA once and it didn't hold up well at all, I recommend against it.
