im experimenting with a shortened surf rod and a ALVEY sidecast surf reel. my aussie buds can cast a 1LB weight and bait over 200+ feet into the surf with these reels.

my reel holds 1400 feet of 10LB mono normally (when fishing), and i can hold about 400 feet of 1 - 2 mm throwline on it.

the reel rotates sideways (facing the target) for casting and the line just peels off of there fast, around 30 feet per second.
