Fellow climber falls 25 feet

Go srt until you get a better anchor.
Let your rope run through multiple branches, if one fails there's always another there to catch you.

Kevin and Laz, that's what I have been doing alot lately especially in pines and it gives you a good backup.

Good to hear from you Chris!

Yeah, its a simple way to back up - just make sure your rope/ascender combo can handle the fall from one branch to the other. Having so much rope paid out is a huge advantage, but consider the use of an energy absorber in the lanyard.

Yeah, I've been very busy this summer. Haven't had the time to do much surfing on the Buzz. I'm back now though.

I will look into using an energy absorber, that is a very good idea.

Mntreedawg- sorry to hear about your buddy. Glad to hear he survived and hope him a speedy recovery. When you talk to him next, could you elaborate more on the accident? I'd like to compare notes on why dead elms suck.

If you read KySawyers post in awakenings, you will read a similar experience, though KySawyer was a bit luckier.

Also note: Multiple tie in points in KySawyer's elm would have increased his chance of a serious accident.
