forgive my ignorance bu how do you install a FC on a palm if your not using spikes, infact how do you climb a palm tree with out using spikes? (unless your like those ninja kids i saw in Thailand who just shimmy up an pick coconuts)

Skutter, use a throwline, set a line over the top of the palm, then haul up another line that has your climbing line hanging from it.

Sometimes. To prevent this you can sometimes get one throwline over the top and use it to pull the upright fronds to one side or the other to create a "window". Then get another line through that window to set your line. Some frond damage is usually inevitable, but well worth it when dealing with a heavy skirt.

Just take care with some palm species the petiole of the fronds have incredibly sharp edges that can cut through rope very easily and quickly.

Yo So-Cal, do you ever have problems pulling down your fc. on palms with skins? I've had to go back up too many times. If there's skins, I usually go the old-school way.

One time my rope got stuck and i had to use my truck to pull it out ... not no more thanks to the F.C
