Eye Protection

I'm looking for a new pair of goggles/glasses. The Bugz brand looked cool, but they're not ANSI approved. I'd like something that won't get scratched up if I toss them on the dash between jobs. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I've went to the expensive ones. $26. 3M Fuel they're called. A bit more scratch resistant and clearer than the under $20 ones. I can't remember how many $100 shades I've lost or broken. I don't know this store I just pulled it off google for an example.

Mesh googles/glasses have been discussed before. If your steaming up your glasses and end up putting them in your pocket you might as well forget the safety regs and wear mesh. I saw somewhere a new mesh option on the market. Looked OK.

Found them. The Safe Eyes model.

I wear Bugz mesh and Kask with visor when I am cutting palms and coconut trees both removal and pruning. I also use this combination when cutting milky trees like ficus and breadfruit and other poison trees. For all other trees I just use regular stihl safety wrap around glass and Kask visor. I save my polarized SPY shades for all other use as these type of shades while they can be used as safety are way too expensive.

I like the cheap Stihl glasses. Two tinted and two clear for about $12 total. I think that the pack is called the Landscaper or Contractor pack.

Thin arms that are comfortable under muffs.

I put mine on the top of the eye part and arm and they tend to stay that way on the dash, so don't get scratched much. Otherwise, on the back of my neck or hung on my shirt collar. They usually last a good long while. Never broke any.

Just got my supervisor turned on to them. Cheap, comfy, good fit. Win all around.

I THINK that I remember that they are 100% UV blocking.

They can store in the original packaging, too.

These are what I wear they are by stihl and are $22 a pair here cheaper in the states I presume. Really comfy. Don't fog ever.

I have been using the same pair of http://www.safeeyesaustralia.com.au/ for 2+ years now.

They are impact resistant (and I have a personal story to back that up), they don't have sun glare (like Bug Eyes), they don't fog up, won't scratch, and what I like best; they actually reduce the number of crap getting in your eye 10 fold.

I live in Colorado. Colorado is generally a very dry state. So, fogging up in regular safety glasses shouldn't be a problem, right? Nope, it still happens.

Having to stop work severl dozen times per day to clean foggy glasses (that still allow debris to get into your eyes) are not profitable IMO.

These are the best investment.

Been using Starlite GS Z87 Safety Glasses for years - $4 ea
Polycarbonate - Impact & UV protection, scratch & fog resistant
Keep several pairs in several places in Yellow (cloudy days) and Smoke (sunny days)
They're comfortable, work good & tough enough ...
But, at that price, if they get trashed - just grab another pair ... done with $20+ EP

And NO, that's not me in the picture.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time.

I use Bugzeyes exclusively regardless of what the dang regulations say, because they are the only eye protection I know of that doesn't fog up and blind you when you're sweating like a pig.

Being aware of what's going on around you at all times is crucial to safety and a long career.

I'd rather be blind in one eye and deaf rather than dead or crippled.

So many guys I know have gotten hurt because they're so insulated in their own world that they don't hear that car squealing around the corner and taking out cones and barreling down on them. Or hear that groundman scream for help as he gets caught up in a big branch and gets dragged towards a whole tree chipper.

Train your crew to look around them every few seconds, like a radar dish spinning around. It could save someone's life.

I am stepping out on a limb here but I absolutely detest ear muffs ( derail ), I have tried wearing them over and over and can't get used to them. Plus down here they make your ears sweat like smoke. Fukkin annoying. Blast me all you like but I am not wearing them. Eye protection I never go without EVER.

Wesspur has some I will give them a try when I do an next week I still want to hear the wife sometimes she speaks quite softly at me ( HAH ).

Regarding the fogging issue, I have been using rain-x anti fog on my glasses. It helps a bunch! it also cleans them like you wouldn't believe. The will still fog a bit in the worst circumstances, but it is way better than not at all. I did Scotty Olsens at the GA TCC and made him a believer too.

Last year I got a couple of pairs of these mesh goggles:

http://www.safeeyesgoggles.com/

I liked them a lot. It was like wearing sun glasses which was a problem on overcast days.

One of my buddies was on the mowing/edging crew so I gave him the goggles to wear. He loved them from the get-go! The other guys who were running edgers had typical glasses and were always getting crud in their eyes. With the Safe Eyes none of the flying crud went inside.

Since they sealed on his face he didn't have a problem with sweat running in his eyes either.

They pass ANSI standards too!

I don't know what their vendor network is like in the US. It would be worth the effort finding a vendor if you're looking for this type of eye protection.
