expert treeservice

I agree - its hardly encouraging. Could well be the reason he is out of touch with the industry in the first place - too many attitudes.

Rodding is a term for through bolts to support a cracked trunk/limb.

[/ QUOTE ]AKA bracing.

I use sealants on some wounds and I excavate cavities to assess strength loss and also in the hopes of slowing decay. These practices are ANSI compliant and properly done they are sound arboriculture.
I have read and reread all the 20 year old references cited in this thread, and a lot written since.

Trees don't care what's Politically Correct, so neither should arborists. As Pat Benatar would say, hit me with your best shot, fire away.

I read this in the Sherrill "Ascend" catalog today. Very apropros...

My two cents on this website and the "tree expert" in question:

It is easy to make fun of someone who has put themselves on display for all to see, yet has no idea that he is putting out false information. I would start from the standpoint that this guy simply does not know any better, and no one has taken the time to educate him about the developments in modern tree care in the last 20 years.

He seems like a very nice guy, and should be given the benefit of the doubt before the ridicule sets in.

Now, if he vehemently defends some of the pruning practices advertised on his site, I say lay into him.

Just my two cents.

Come one guys. Can't you all see it's a prank.

Treebing had some spare time between two pruning jobs and he put up this website just to annoy us

And if not... Than we should invite the man into the digital world, give him a "membership" on Treebuzz after we've deleted this whole thread. But in the mean time

OK, even if this is/was a prank, the first thing some of y’all did was to criticize the person. And fire off emails to him. GEE – SO KIND OF YOU.

On here, Treebuzz, you seem to be more educated then the average cut and run tree company. You should take this person and share what you have, educate him as to new techniques, remember, he has workers that HE is educating. So the next generation in that area might just work in old school ways. A polite invite and making people feel welcome is a way to get them over from the dark and evil side. Maybe send him an old TCIA magazine or he has email, the link to that and this site.

As they say you get more bees with honey then vinegar.

Embrace and educate, you hold the future in your hands.

My 1 penny’s worth.

OK - i'll go back in my corner now.

Rodding isn't a word that is out of use or dated. There are plenty of words that are regional just like any dialect. I heard the term used at a workshop no more than three months ago.

Ok, I´m a bit offended now. What was offencive in the mails Taylor and I sent the guy? As far as I´m concerned it was an attempt to enlighten him that there actually have been a revolution in the treecare industry since he started in the 60thies and I cant´t in any way see that we stepped on him to make ourselves look great.
How to get him into the right path without telling him he´s on the wrong?
Anyone...
Cheers

I'll wager 100 bucks you will NEVER get him to change.

you all need to keep in mind that for every TreeBuzz/ISA/new skool arborist out there, there are 1000 old skooltree climbers/arborists/tree companies out there that have been working with trees for the last 50-60 years, and they will simply not change because a bunch of internet arborists get offended by their methods. They will most likely tell you (if they even have a computer or give a damn about what you say) to piss off. What makes you think that because you "enlighten" them (via internet SLANDER) about their outdated methods, that they are gonna change? You are all gonna be lucky if this guy does'nt take the owners of Treebuzz or its individual members to court for slander.....honestly, if your so concerned about this mans practices, why not simplye EDUCATE THE CUSTOMER about these practices, and let the CUSTOMER (the one paying your wages) make up their own mind.

seriously, whats with the tree police?

btw i'm new skool, and i have never met or conversed with the fellow in question.

sheesh!

sorry, just rambling...

SRT I agree that we should not act enlightened, because we are all still in the dark. But we cannot just ignore what we are very sure are poor practices. The trick is to feed the info in a way that it will be swallowed.

I'm not sure of how to do that.

Sems like you have some challenge over there. In my dictionary "slander" means talking unfavourable of someone behind their back. I sent him a polite email.
Currently there is only one school in tree care and the guy is obviously not that outdated, after all he has a website. I don´t mind if he refuses to answer my mail but I hope a little seed have been sown and that he starts seeking for new knowledge.
Just because the internet wasn´t invented 20 years ago doesn´t mean its not here now.

here's a different thought

several folks on here offer that we need to educate the fellow, bring him up to standard
that's good, I respect the effort and support it

but the responsibility is totally his
whatever you do, when you perform it for compensation for someone else, you have a responsibility, a moral obilgation, to do it to the best of your abilities, which includes always working to improve your craft.

he obviously does not want to improve his craft and in turn is providing an inferior standard of work to his customers
