Before I start this off, I have to say that - frankly - I am somewhat surprised that no one could be bothered to post the results of the euros that are meanwhile ten days past... I don't quite get it, but maybe it's just me.
The euros took place in Nantes, France this year. Great location in Brittany on the north west coast, really beautiful area, very wild and woolly. The comps were in the Parc des Grand Blottereau with the french holding their nationals on Fri, ETCC on Sat and Sun.
The french are a blast. It'd be too complicated to explain it all here, but they hold their events well... differently. On site there was loads of really cool land arty kind of sculptures. No pics, I'm afraid, another event I've been to with my camera with me to return home having taken not one single pic! Maybe someone else? Camp site on location. This filled up until it was fit to burst, more like Calcutta or the Lowlands Festival than anything else, with clapped out vehicles of all descriptions, campfires and arbos in abundance! /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif
The set-up crew did a great job with the frech guys on site. Salim, the italian possee, the spanish crew (Cesc, what a star!), Didj, Targe, Sybs and Craig... and all I forgot - sorry. Loads of work with little credit given at the end of it all. Thank you all.
The event was great with loads of people turning up despite atlantic weather (showers). Good performances from the climbers, great show. Throw line, Aerial Rescue and Work Climb on Sat, Footlock and Speedclimb on Sun morning. Thirty two men and five women took part from all over europe.
After the prelims Camille De Müynck (F) took first place, Paloma Ziegelmayer (D) second. The mens' were: Jelte Buddigh' (NL) 4th, Ronny Epple (D) 3rd, John Turnbull (UK) 2nd and Mark Bridge (CH) 1st. I know, it's embarassing having to write this myself... I wish someone else had done it...
Womens' Masters' took place in the modified work climb tree. Paloma ran out of time, but due to Camille dropping her hand-saw and being DQ'd she took first place. So in the end it was:
2nd Camille de Müynck
1st Paloma Ziegelmayer
Mens' Masters' was great cos I got to go first and watch everyone. What was nice was that everyone got their climb done. The final result here was :
4th Jelte
3rd Jon
2nd Mark
1st Ronny
Ronny had a really good climb, it really all came together for him, and I feel that if I was going to loose the title to anyone I'm glad it was him! He's also been really unlucky these past few years, so I reckon it was doulbly deserved.
Jon set the european record for the 50 foot footlock with 16 seconds.
Team Netherland won the team prize, Team UK came second.
It was a really tight competition with loads of talent around. Good to share a couple of days with these great people. What blows me over every time is Team Czech... these guys rock big time. Thomasz did his whole work climb on a Grigri (instead of a friction hitch)... how cool is that?!
It'd be great to maybe get the score sheets posted here! Craig, any chance of that?
Anybody got any photos worth sharing? As I said before, I might have just as well have left my camera at home...
And no... big dissapointment this year: No hill, no beach rolley races. That sucked. They should make it a condition for hosting the ETCC: "Must have hills".
There you go. Ultra to the point. Probably full of typos... to late to check for them now, you'll have to excuse me... /forum/images/graemlins/zzz.gif
