So I recently put the 'Egan Performance header pipe' on my Echo 2511 and figured I should share my experience.

I've got like... 20 saws and all my regularly used tools have various bolt-on mods, with all my daily carry saws (around 10) having muffler mods, either cutting the stock muffler or WCS BarkBoxes. The Barkbox on the 661, 500i and 400 made pretty decent improvements (at the cost of 2x the noise) but out of all the muffler mods I've done, this Eagn pipe on the 2511 has made by far the biggest improvement. (adjust the carb accordingly)

Could you get the same improvement out of just drilling a hole straight through your stock muffler? Maybe, but a replacement stock muffler is the same price as the eagn pipe, so I rolled the dice. Out of all my muffler mods it's probably the loudest change going from stock to modded so keep that in mind, and long ago I went from the stock .050 to 1/4 pitch which was a tremendous improvement, but going from the stock muffler to the Egan pipe after doing the 1/4 pitch conversion honestly made it go from a decent light saw to a truly great to use saw. Performance is shockingly improved and its just FUN. It's gone form, "Eh..." to a saw I'm probably going to put in the regular rotation, especially given how light it is. I can only imagine how much better a ported 2511 would be.

I have a ported 2511T, which came from the builder with a hole drilled in the muffler and a pipe extension welded on. 1/4 pitch as well. I recently added the Egan pipe and retuned the carb. I was pleasantly surprised with how much it gained. Certainly not quiet though.

I also bought an Egan pipe for my 355T and retuned the carb. Entirely different saw. IMO, it makes the low dollar unit a serious contender vs the equivalent husky/stihl offerings. Adding a narrow kerf (.043) bar/chain seems to have helped as well.
 
Honestly I love battery saws mostly because they are quiet, I wish all my saws were that way.

But I'm certainly willing to put up with significantly louder saws in exchange for the performance gains it yields. Where to draw that line is going to be different for everyone. I'd be much more hesitant about loud tools if I was in an urban area.

I totally agree. I like battery saws! I like this little echo a lot
I don’t own one but climbed with a friends all worked and dailed in
I love the handle on this saw its weight and it pulls through wood so well. I’ll say I do enjoy its sound though as well although the neighbors at 7 a’m may not haha

The pruning guy I work with has been jamming the husky battery saws since the first month of the 536i, and he heard me running a lightly modded 2511, and came over and saw me chunking down a 12" ash stem with relative ease. I handed it to him while I dismounted out of the tree, and when he felt it's weight, realized that he wanted two just like it. I love it more and more every day.
 
I threw an Eagan straight pipe on the echo 355t and saw decent improvement.

I have since taken that back off. Put the stock muffler back on with a drilled hole, less power, less fun, quieter by a long shot haha.

Was getting so much guff from the crew about the loudness but maybe I’ll throw it back on. Fugg em lol

Almost like a “don’t pull that saw out before 930” but it is fun to rip.

The saw idled and after tuning hit it’s top end rev beautifully. Had to tinker a bit after putting the stock back on. Still does the job.

I just bolted it on to my 2511. Holy shit! The saw is a whole different animal now.

One of my less often used 200T's is stock while my main one is modded. It was so different I thought something was wrong with the saw and then I realized why does it also seem so quiet. I can say I prefer the mod power despite the more noise.
 
Interesting thread. I love power and fast saws. But...since I don't see one word of caution in this thread I'm going to point something out.

I've heard of fires started near me in CA in the middle of summer by a spark from a lawn mower hitting a rock and by trailer safety chains being drug down the road. I've put puffs of fire out when I was blocking down an excessively pitch pine trunk and was letting the muffler touch one spot a little too long.

Can you imagine being the person who started a Paradise California like fire or Hawaii type fire with a saw out of legal compliance? I'm sure there are ways and times to run the saws to greatly reduce the risks.

In CA we just had another insurance company say they will no longer write policies for homeowners insurance. Those who are fortunate enough to get renewed just saw another 30% or more jump in premiums in addition to other jumps since the 2017 fires.
 
A good point to bring up, I remember it being discussed somewhere in another thread as well.

I'm honestly not clear on the rules myself, but I believe federal laws and many states require spark arresters on saws on their land, but there are generally no such rules on private land.

Some modified mufflers have built in spark arrestors, like the WCS barkbox and universal port, others don't like the eagn straight shot this thread is about, and the WCS port for the 200. (not a shill here, they just have the best photos of their products)

So yah, know the rules and understand the risks. Personally..... I've never seen a single spark ever come out of my muffler, modified or not, but I have seen dry moss singe and start to burn by just felling trees and having the hot stock muffler touching it. Use common sense, follow the rules and if in a dry area regardless of the saw, have a fire extinguisher if it's a concern. I know some logging operations have to stop operations part way through the day due to humidity levels during fire season.

The only thing worse would be being legally compliant and having the shit luck to start a fire with a hot muffler or chain spark. But I agree if you're in fire prone circumstances removing the spark arrestor is a bonehead move.
