Douglas-fir removal

Schweet, gord!! That log looks heavy. do you know what they did with it? Mill it onsite? Or get it out? and how?

Wondering if you could have dropped 8-12 foot logs (a millable length) safely, by employing a vertical speedline?

More questions. Did the faller thin out the center of the hinge or remove all of it? Looks like a pretty wide hinge on the visible side. Cutting some or all of the center holding wood out is something that I often do when dropping bare stems--allows for a wider hinge=better, easier.

Do you know what she scaled out at? I'm guessing 27" at 32 feet= 1040 bd feet.....There's a fair bit of taper, but that is a biggie...my second guess is it's no more than 31" which = 1390 bf.

The largest fir I recall doing was 56 inches on the butt cut, but only 31" at 34'10". We craned it out.
 
Hey roger I'm not sure if they got the log out of there or not. I have a feeling that they might have to get a portable mill in there or take it out in a few short lengths. There wasn't enough room to fall lengths safely or I definitely would have (see avatar, there was a house 15' behind me in that pic.)

The feller didn't thin the center of the hinge, although it's a technique I've used myself a good few times. It went over perfect in the narrow spot we had for it.
