When I worked in CA on Palm trees there was a fungal disease (the name escapes me)that was easily spread through pruning tools. We used a piece of PVC mounted on a wooden base filled with rubbing alcohol. We had an extra pruning saw and would rotate the saw in the alcohol between trees.
