Hey
10 - 11$ her in Norway, and we don´t even need to import the stuff since we are like a Scandinavian Kuwait. The good thing with high fuel prices is that now everyone is looking for alternatives and ways to reduce the use of cars and even US may experience the benefits of cleaner air and the pleasure of a quick walk to the supermarket.

I just drove my crane a long distance sat, I figured it cost $1 per mile at 60 mph.... $1 per minute or $60/per hour

I believe it comes down to demand, yes.

18-wheelers all use diesel, which is a lot of fuel at a constant rate. Diesel is also quite similar to home heating oil, so demand goes up more in winter. It wasn't as pronounced last year, but typically pricing reverses in summer (i.e., gas costs more than diesel).

Good observations. I agree.

Here's a picture of my mechanic's bio-diesel dually.

I don't want to sound rude. But, I don't think it is necessary to communicate that on a truck.

Why do people have to communicate what their vehicles run on?

It seems to give me the impression of a kid saying, "I'm better than you." --Just my opinion... Maybe I'm just reading into it too much

It may have to do with advertising. He could be the installer of such equipment or cut a deal to get a better price from the guy who does.

There is a company that will actually pay you to have your car fully wrapped in advertising for a company.

I didn't think of it that way. I don't have a beef with that.

Why not market the fact that you company is trying to be more "green friendly"? We are in the Green Industry. Ironically speaking who is to say that us using more Bio-Diesel is not going to promote deforestation in South America to grow more soybeans to make Bio-Diesel????

As workers directly tied to the environment, we should remember the true cost of petroleum products. The damage to our health and the environment are not part of the cost or it would be much higher. We can all find ways to conserve fuel and educate customers when sharing the increased cost.

Ahhh but what about the merits of algae crops for oil??

It's a fine line, I agree. But I have some stickers similar to those in the photo (not quite as obnoxious, but still . . .). There's probably a part of me that's tooting my own horn, but I want to promote the fuel, not my use of it. When people see an otherwise normal-looking truck driving on biofuel, they are perhaps less inclined to think only kooks in modified 1980's mercedes use this crazy new fuel.

I'm not saying biodiesel is the perfect solution (I doubt there is one unique solution) but it seems to me it is the best thing going right now, and it requires no special modifications or equipment to use it.

I love the idea of taking a waste product and using to power up engines, hope it catches on. Not so sure about trying to extract oil from soy beans

. I "heard" that if you took every kernal of corn produced in America, and made ethanol out of it, it would make up only 16 % of total fuel used. I'de be more in favor of making engines burn more efficiently, after all, if we can put a man on the moon....you know the story. Also , fuel always seems to go up in the spring and fall, might have something to do with farmers working those tractors in the fields.

By advertising the features of you or your company it is necessary to promote your competitive advantage. This is reality. Does Biodiesel give you a that advantage in cost or ethics?
