Details of taking out a damaged black oak

Moss! No PPE? No groundie? I thought you took this arb stuff serious.

A rare moment not wearing chaps on the ground. I haven't found chainsaw pants I like for climbing yet, see earlier comments in the thread. I've been climbing solo for many years, I wouldn't be a climber otherwise. Typically I have a groundie, this was a rare situation not. No excuses, I do risk assessment/management on everything I do around trees, not justifying, it is what it is.

That said I'll never be the fast production climber, I've done enough contract work to know what I am and what I'm not. I see many tree workers I work with taking serious risks to beat the clock/quote, this is probably the most serious overall risk facing the industry, even for the most skilled and efficient climbers. For my jobs I always pace myself within my capabilities. -AJ

I was just busting your balls a little. ;)

Chainsaw pants and steel toes are the law here so it's always strange seeing someone work without them. It's so engrained that most climbers even wear them at climbing competitions. I figure it's best to have them if you hit your leg 60' during a solo climb.

My bust-o-meter is pretty much broken ;-) To be clear, when I talk about years of solo climbing that's not work climbing. Someone always on the ground or nearby when I'm work climbing, that was the case for the black oak takedown, not a tree worker but they were there to call 911 for example if something happened.
