definition of a heritage tree

Serious issues indeed.

An expert is often defined as someone 50+ miles away.
No others like me...
Or like you, Thank Gawd!

How did something as simple as tree care get to be a blood sport?

We are too few for fratricide. Or for carrot-dangling.

I do things that you have no idea are even possible... for years now....

Shame of it is that the whole world would know by now if it weren't for your arrogance... but you don't even remember... so get drunk and type whatever you want into that keyboard... won't change a thing... cause its all true!

ding ding ding LOL

I'll be honest with you Guy , You just dead wood trees .Two huge leads broke out of my Mulberry and I had to cut back and thin the tree . You told me that the tree didn't need to be cut back , and I didn't want my neighbors to know I did tree work . You let me down , I cut the heavy limbs back , because two leads broke. I didn't want to climb the tree down south . I said at the time time the Junipers were arbys , it was joke , You said oh no they are Junipers . What a clown , ask my son . No [pick a different word] . Stop smoking Guy Weed . Daniel smokes Daniel Weed . You should have had some respect for me Guy whan you did that work , instead you got high on your self . and if you ever place me in the same breath as Daniel , I will continue to berate you , You need to apologize if you want future work , and Daniel needs to stfu.

Heritage tree – “a tree that has a diameter of 24 inches or more,
measured 4.5 feet above natural grade, and is one of the following
species: Texas ash, Bald cypress, American elm, Cedar elm, Texas
madrone, Bigtooth maple, all Oaks, Pecan, Arizona walnut, or Eastern
black walnut” (City of Austin Code, § 25-8-602).

Got examples from other cities?

What are the size and species that define a heritage tree in your town Dave?

Austin ain't in Ohio--24" trees are pretty rare there.

Its not me Guy, this IS politics. You buy a little tree for $199.99. You grow it on YOUR property and nurture it and water it and protect it. Some 30 years later you decide to put in a garage or a pole building in the only spot available...where the tree is located. You have to ask govt. if you can remove your tree you bought and grew on your property when they could care less if you have a building and plenty of trees were removed to build their houses?

Government should stay out of people's personal property and expect them to act "reasonably" and if they don't then bring a case against them and let a jury decide if they have not acted reasonably.

I hear ya Dave, but this is a tangent to the OP. Very few cities ime include private trees in heritage tree ordinances.

btw the motto out there is "Keep Austin Weird". Make of that what you will!

Or what? You're gonna call and threaten to "beat me up"... that's p.d. adolescent of you Glen. Great example you're setting there!

You spew whatever defamatory BS about anyone you want, like there's no repercussion.. AT least Everything I say is true.

You have the mentality of a schoolyard bully.. you like talking crap, but can't take the truth when its thrown back in your face. You gonna give it, you better be able to take it. And that goes for your threats of violence too.

Tell me your brother and two sons want to kill me... LOL.. like that's supposed to scare me.. for what? I just tell it like it is.

This thread is about park and ROW trees being monitored by Govt. as to what and when Govt. can cut down?

[/ QUOTE ]Right, not private trrees, which is another topic. at least that's what i understood; hard to tell with all the static.

The Treaty Oak in Austin is a great example of Govt. choosing to preserve a heritage tree. First-class work top to bottom by the city and friends.

• Heritage Tree Programs
Heritage trees encompass an array
of unique values that are based on
specimen, age, size, aesthetic, historical or horticultural value. Every community has
different guidelines when it comes to recognizing heritage trees, but the common
purpose of these programs is to encourage proper tree maintenance, increase public
awareness, educate property owners and limit the removal of these trees.

Here is a list of heritage tree programs that can be used as models while developing
your own:

We have had a "Tree Champion" program for a decade in my town, a northern suburb. People nominate candidates with the above criteria and more and 10 to 12 are chosen annually by the UFB of which I was a member. These trees receive plaques and protection as a result of this. It has worked quite well for private trees which need it even more than Row and park trees imo. If you retain all the city's trees and lop off all the private owned trees, well, that would be more devastating than the reverse.

I looked at a tree today for a friends niece . Silver Maple 58 dbh , 90 ft. , but topped over the years , I'd say fifteen year growth since last top job . Any way , They want it down . Tree is healthy and green . Now , would I classify this Silver Maple as a Heritage tree ? Can't say I can . Large tree , it has outgrown its environment . It is on first ave in Broomall Pa. if you want to google map it . Time to replace . I agree Treevet , maybe homeowners before they sell their properties should recognize their old growth trees . I took down a 50 dbh red Oak 100+ ft. on Monday with a crane , cracked on two sides , not a dead limb in it , it would have crushed the house . We crushed it first. Heritage trees should be in my opinion on public land away from the drop zone of a home or highway .
