I am incredibly sad to report that Hickory Heights Hotel is no longer with us. I'm not certain when the death occurred as we have had a ton of violent storms recently and our ridiculous tick infestation has kept us out of the woods as of late.

For those of you who have had the opportunity to act as human cables for this beauty you will interested to note that the failure occurred below the main split of the co-doms !!!

Here's to all the good times and excellent memories made while spending time aloft with Hickory Heights...you will truly be missed and always remembered.

Sad to hear. Good thing no one was sleeping in it when it happened. It would have been a killer ride to the forest floor. Not one I'm man enough to ride.

Yeah, we always had all the climbers tie into the main upright stem in case the smaller lead decided to split out....but the failure occurred below the split which is pretty freaky considering. I am truly shocked that both stems fell the same direction...those winds must have caught it perfectly with some serious force to do that.

for those that want to know what it looked like before the failure....

Alas, poor Hickory Heights, I knew him not well. (unfortunately, and apologies to the Bard for messing up the quote)

How tall was that tree? Looks like the co-dom was only 15-20 feet from the ground.

Also looks like a huge force pushed it down.

We typically slept between 75'-85', but overall I think it was just shy of 100'. The split between the leaders was pretty low down and extended about 10' with tons of healthy looking wound wood surrounding it. After the ice storms earlier this year we noticed that the split had widened about a half an inch, but otherwise the tree appeared to be in perfect health.

I just bought a Tree Boat, and was hoping to make a reservation in the Hickory Hotel. :-(

I know you have other nice tree hotels in the area.

Are the amenities the same ?
e.g. deliveried coffee, pastries, etc. ?

Rich ! Thanks for all the hospitality !

Ciao for Now !

Man that is pretty incredible! I can't believe THAT tree knocked over, did others in the area come down or was this an isolated incident?

I read about this last night out in the woods as I was headed up to my tree boat suspended between two nice oaks out in the woods at Boy Scout camp. Woah!

Sorry 'bout the loss.

Glad you clarified that with the post.

Had not idea what you meant at first. Thought it was somewhere you stayed while climbing in an area.

Well - sort of though - right - lol
