50 years ago today, on March 1, 1973, Pink Floyd released Dark Side of the Moon, one of the best rock albums of all time. Timeless art. I was obsessed with Dark Side for years. It still speaks to me.

"Tired of lying in the sunshine,
staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long,
and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find,
ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run,
you missed the starting gun...

So you run and you run
to catch up with the sun
but it's sinking.
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way
but you're older.
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death...

Every year is getting shorter
never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught
or half a page of scribbled lines.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.
The time is gone, the song is over.
Thought I'd something more to say... "

The most influential album in my life. Thanks for the reminder of its release date, I'll listen to it in full tonight.

Edit: put on Dark Side of Oz, dual subwoofers are nice.

I posted in your instagram. Waters is going to rerelease the album without his bandmates. The discussions surrounding what he said during his UN appearance created a nasty spat between his bandmates. He has decided to cut them off as much as they tried to discredit him. LOL. *********Edited***********

Yeah I heard there was some controversy but I didn't look into it........

Prior to his speech to the UN Waters gave an interview on feb 4th in which he largely blamed Ukraine and the West for Russia’s invasion. During the same interview Water’s was also complimentary of Putin. No wonder Russia invited Waters to the UN to speak on their behalf.

The Pink Floyd kerfuffle is a lovely rockstar sideshow but it doesn’t change the simple fact that thousand of people are losing their lives because Putin decided to invade and wage war on a sovereign nation.

Nope. not going there. This is my political bullshit free zone. @ Rico I would really like to not have this conversation with you. I'd like to keep our political opinions out of our friendship. I can tell you we are polar opposites on several subjects and I am able to respect you and see past our differing viewpoints without it effecting my opinion of who I think you are as a person. I hope you feel the same.

If you wanted a political bullshit free zone you probably shouldn’t have brought up Water‘s UN speech, which was political, then started using term like “woke” and “cancel”..

I still scratching my head trying to figure out how terms like “woke” and “cancel”, which have become highly politicized, pertain in any way to the original post.

I really don't want to debate it. Its just that simple. Are we to the point when somebody can't even post something without it becoming blown up? Didn't come here asking for a fight. If the OP doesn't like it he can delete it.

I’m not looking for a fight Steve. Just some clarification.

And to be crystal clear here. Your political views won’t change my belief that your are a genuinely good man. Good folks come in all kind of sizes, shapes, and flavors, and I know one when I see one.

I'm scratching my head as well for a couple reasons. Maybe I misjudged our interactions over the years. I have never uttered even something remotely disrespectful in your direction. I wasn't one of those guys in the early years giving you a ton of shit. We had some fantastic conversations public and private. I recall you even inviting me into your home if I was ever out that way. You gave me a saddle with no expectation of anything in return. I know we have differing opinions. I respect that and steer clear of them. Does what I posted make me your enemy? Does my choice of words make me someone you need to confront to rite some wrong. Do you dislike me now after everything because of what I posted on someone else's thread? If so, I'm sad and disappointed. If so I misjudged our interactions and I think its unfortunate because I believe people can have differing opinions and still like each other. Strange times we live in these days.

Without sharing my opinion on his speech and the current state of Geopolitics.....what shots were fired back and forth on Twatter between Waters, his bandmates, their wives......him redoing the album without them to say FU to them.........its so much drama and grown ass men playing little tit for tat bullshit for all the world to see on social media is not becoming for anybody. IDK. the world is straight fucked up and so are most of the inhabitants. I also am disappointed the music I grew up on is not safe from the common world ridiculousness.

"Us (us, us, us, us, us)
and
Them (them, them, them, them)
And after all,
we’re only ordinary men"

When we talk in person, we are often aware of the things that we disagree on, but because we are friends, and extend to each other the benefit of the doubt, we purposely avoid bringing those things up. And that's ok. That is normal and healthy. Because when we talk in person, we realize that we agree on almost everything.

I remember the song Money being the first non-standard time song I ever heard, before I heard Dave Brubeck's Take Five from the skiing film. Of course me and my buddy's had to learn it and then years later the song kept giving with simple but very effective guitar solo lines to learn. Should be mandatory for guitar education IMO.

Some of the lyrics are a bit on the downer side but I can get past that.
