customers and Insurance fraud

Is it just me, or does any one else out there refuse to mark up a bid on insurance work, accept a verbally agreed upon lower price, and help the property owner avoid paying a deductible?

I have people try to do it all the time. I just tell them I have to much to risk, it's not worth getting caught.

Home owners can be so cheap. Even when they caused the claim, they don't even want to pay the deductible. I think thats the least they can do for their negligence.

I did it once in the first years of my career. Then I realized that it was fraud. Spending time at Gray Stone State...the penitentiary, was NOT a good career move. Never again!

I did an insurance job for my neighbor (we lost 4 mature spruce trees that divided our property), and I put all of the money back into replanting large evergreens to restore the boundary.

She had another company that was going to adjust the bid to eliminate the deductible, which I didn't do. The other company would have saved her $500, but this way she got the value back in the form of replacement trees, I made $0 on the job. It felt good to put the money back into planting new trees!

This happened about 4 years ago, the trees (Redcedars) are now over 20 feet tall!
