Curious about moving to the Carolinas...

CutHighnLetFly

Been here a while
Location
Cape Cod, MA
My spouse and I grew up in the town we bought a house in. I could be a cape townie for ever, but I fear my wife doesn't feel the same.
I gotta look near the ocean. What coastal /near coast towns should I consider?
Where I am my house is a small ranch house on just under an acre on a main ish road. 1 bath, 3 small bedrooms. I pay huge property taxes on it, and I could probably get $300k for it here, which is good for me but if I were to stay in MA I'd be making only a lateral or backwards move in my eyes.
So what's out there? Any suggestions? Anyone wanna host a work visit over the winter?
Thanks for any input
Andre

I bought a farm in an area I thought to be conducive to my late-stage life: plant and raise food, community support, predictable rainfall and at least an hour away from major medical centers.
Prices attracted me, sovereign tribal governments, and surface water.
Instead..no building codes, the most active earthquake region on the continent, corrupt state and local governments, 4day school weeks, billion-dollar state funding deficit, highest cancer rates in the nation and the highest mercury/lead arsenic levels in surface water organisms on earth (no scrubbers on coal plants). Our roads no longer get maintained (bankrupted county govs.) And power line rights of ways no longer have adequate clearing done. 4 ten-day or longer responses to restore energy here in 2017 alone.
I sent the children out of state because of jobs, opportunity, health and a future.
On the other hand, where we left became too prosperous..blind development and it's consequences, new private prison, traffic jams, and a growing conservatism that promoted racism, out of touch price increases, police brutality (our town had 3 cops 25 years ago..today, 135.
All I'm saying is the protocols to find the best area..with the best attributes for your needs and wants may not be what's right for a family or a solid as possible future.

I personally love Virginia Beach. Went there for vacation last year and now wanna move there. It's not a town by any means (if that's what you prefer), but a family and pet friendly place. Sales tax is a bit high, but nothing crazy. I'd definitely consider it.
