Crap gear!

True that, Vet. Ours came with containers from the same brand so we're good. These are all we carry in the trucks. Some genius will mold up an adapter to make the no-spill fit older cans and make a million pounds o' cheddar.

Yeah Oceans, we are switching over to those and they actually do work quite well. But as TreeLogic said:
Nothing works better than the old style cans with the separate vent cap.

We kept our cans with the separate vent cap as long as we could nurse them along, but they are history now. :(

But those new no spill nozzles do work as well as anything I've found so far. However, those installable nozzles are something sweet that I'll have to try.

I wouldn't call it crap but I have always been disappointed with the CMI micro mouse. I got it before the HC came around and it never could compare. The bolts always seem to grab your hitch legs and cause slippage. I really can't think of any other uses for it either.

I use that same pulley for my hitch tender and was wondering if the hc would be a big improvement.

use it on a rope bridge in place of a ring.
That was actually why I originally purchased this pulley. When I upgraded to the split tail I thought it would be effective for a bridge anchor however it just ended up being to bulky and to much to assemble. I much prefer the ring. The only other time I've effectively used this pulley for anything other than a hitch tender was as an anchor pulley for a MA pulling system when there wasn't a suitable anchor in place. Having the two holes allowed me to run ropes in two different directions to trees not near each other and worked out overall pretty good. However, that was a one time thing. After reading this thread I'm really glad I didn't go with the Rope boss bag and instead went with the DMM porter. My coworker has had his RopeBoss bag for barely a year and it is falling apart.

I bought the Petzl throwball "cube" and have never been more disappointed. Since day 1 the plastic rods would poke through and I am constantly doing maintenance on them. I finally became so frustrated with the constant maintenance I broke down and bought the Falteimer cube and have never looked back.
As far as Caritools, I use 1 lrg one to hang my chainsaw from and it's still going strong 2-3 years now.

I like TreeStuff a lot but get dinged badly on duties.
I really have no complaints with Sherrill.
Better yet I like shopping at Universal Field Supplies.

I bought the ropeboss bag years ago and it immediately fell apart. Within the month. But.... it has remained useful for the last six years even in it's decrepit state. So, I'd say it was an ok buy.

Just a point on crappy products. If we don't immediately return them when they fall apart the manufacturer will continue to produce the same crap. I've sent stuff back when it has crapped out within the warranty period. That to me, is a defective product that the manufacturer or retailer needs to redress. In most cases they do willingly and with thanks for letting them know. Petzl bag rods poking through on day 1, back that goes, same with the rope boss stuff. If they don't deal with it appropriately, like Sherrill did, I find a better product and supplier. I'm rocking' the Metolius bags now and its standing up well.

They will keep selling crap for as long as we will pay for it.
Exactly, send it back and let them feel some of your pain.

Since I've been laid up my most recent experience was with some bad milk. One gallon jug was sour the day we opened it still before the sell by date and the other had a pin hole in the bottom. I called both companies and let them know. One was immediately apologetic, took all the relevant info of the product and sent us a $5 check (we paid $3.89). The other initially wasn't so willing to deal with the situation outside of us going out of our way to come back to the store and return it(cost of that gallon was $3.49). Then the retailer's head office saw the light and sent us a $10 check which was followed by the producer doing the same. Both, being thankful for the call. My time invested was about 10 mins.

End of the day it cost them $25 to restore faith in them.

Those Metolius bags look aweome!

They are standing up to the punishment we inflict on them, I've got the bigger bag which holds my TM saddle with accessories, 200' of aztec, lanyard and handsaw. The only thing that's broken is the waist belt buckle but, that may have more to do with being nailed a few times with falling pieces.

Are they more durable than the DMM bags? I have the biggest DMM bag and its about a year old. I took the waste buckle off. The only problem I had was with the bottom of the bag being to thin so I layered it in thick wide electrical tape and then coated it with that rubber like tent repair stuff. I did that right after getting it and it seems awesome! Still 100% water proof!

this is my bag. It needed no mods to perform. The bottom is durable. I've chucked this more than a few times from 40'+ and it still looks like new. No burst seams or thinned out bottom. Plus the rope stays dry.
