Crap gear!

WesSpur's throwbags. I love their shape and how they throw, but whoever builds the things sews them so close to the edge of the fabric, they bust after only a few throws. Granted, WesSpur has made good on them, but having to replace throwbags after only a few weeks of use is annoying. I had one bust after only two throws a couple of years ago. Busted one last week after about two months' use.

Those Metolius bags are bombproof. I've taken mine up dozens of big walks and it's still going. If you think tree work abuses a bag, drag one up 3000 feet of granite or sandstone.

I like the Metolius haul bags so much I have 3, all in different sizes. I've put them through a lot of punishment over the years and they've held up very well. They're the only bag you'll ever need.

With all the references to RopeBoss bags you'd think someone from Sherrill might check out the thread and respond to all the bad press!

We're checking the Buzz all the time, and we are listening. You are correct: you guys took the time to give feedback, we should respond.

Regarding the RopeBoss bags: We believe very much in their design now, as much as we did back in 2009 when we launched the bags. But, as good as the design is, and no matter what improvements we've made along the way, there's no denying the fact that we've had a couple batches that were below expectations. You guys are right to call us out on it. It wasn't acceptable, and we tried to make right by our customers.

As we worked through it, we improved our quality control and our supplier relations. Little consolation to the past, I know. But the truth is, we have no interest in making subpar bags. We are very pleased with the current supply of RopeBoss bags, and don't foresee any more issues going forward.

The RopeBoss bags are designed specifically for tree people, offering some features, but keeping the price well under $100.

I appreciate you coming on here to comment. TreeLogic makes the point I would too. There are many of us on here that bought your product in good faith. Read my post about the milk. No qualms about paying for their mistake and then some. That's how you retain or reclaim customers.

I was contacted when this issue first came up and your rep, while not quite acknowledging that there was a problem as directly as you did say new bag designs and producers were in the works. He asked if I would beta test the new bags. I gladly said I would and then, nothing. So, in need of a bag, the company bought me a Metolius Express (well under a $100) and, here I, along with others, am singing it's praises instead of yours.

Missed opportunity or will Sherrill make a real overture to the disgruntled owners of the Rope Boss products?

My pleasure to participate. The issues in my post were from about 3 years ago. And at that time, if people contacted us about a problem bag, we replaced it. Unfortunately, we can't do any warranty claims now for bags from years ago. Since that time, we've not seen anything like that in our bags. An occasional return, but that's the case for any product. We can't repair the damage from the past, but we can make sure we don't repeat it. We aim to maintain a higher level of quality with our bags, and hopefully earn a second chance with those we lost the first time around.

As for the disconnect with our rep, I can't speak for him, but I do apologize. I'll check with him and see what happened.

Let's not make this a lynch mob deal. I still have my original bag. Yes the splines blew out when I threw it down, but the rest is still in working shape. Zipper works, no rips, and as mentioned the price was more than right. I wouldn't chalk that purchase up as a poor one personally.

Sean has commented on what Sherrill will do. Read what he wrote.

I think maybe my remark was taken incorrectly.

However, I have a Vertex Vent I bought from their website, and a set of muffs and visor that was described as working with all Petzl helmets. The visor sits about 4" from the brim leaving a big gap. I took pictures and contacted customer support and they agreed that it didn't fit right. After numerous emails and pictures, nothing has been done except that the description was taken off the website, and the review I left, which wasn't abrasive or rude, wasn't posted. So if I seem a little sore over the customer service, compared to the way TreeStuff has treated me, you'll have to forgive me. That visor is bouncing around in my truck on my dime.

Hey...let's focus up a little.

If you have a customer service complaint deal with it dirctly. Give the vendor a chance to deal with the issue first.

Does anyone want their business name used negatively without being given the opportunity to make things right?
Agreed Tom. However, they were given a chance and they dropped the ball. I had a long discussion with the rep and compared their product to a cheaper priced bag I have owned for close to 10 yrs now that despite the abuse still looks and performs like new. Considering the offer, I was happy to take up the opportunity to help develop the product, but to no avail. It is what it is. I'm glad Sean has come on here and spoken up. I'd like to see the new products performing before I'd commit to buying it. Once bitten, twice shy.

I hate to jump on the band wagon but when I addressed the issue with Sherrill, I was told basically oh well. They said that to make some improvements they had to sacrifice others. My bag is in great shape only because it sits in the tool box and I had to bolt the handle to the bag with large bolts and fender washers. If I ever need to replace it, it wont be with the rope boss. I didn't get any reconciliation, only excuses. The first bag the handle ripped off and the slats cut through. This bag the handle ripped off and the outer zippered pocket came unstitched. Not to mention the slats collapse under the very weight of the bag. I take very good care of my gear and it was never thrown from a tree, dropped out of a chip box or anything like that. I appreciate the explanation provided but it's a little late in the game for me. Had they been more concerned about my issues when I called them, I would still be a Sherrill customer.

That's it Monkey. I'm ditching all my gear bags and packing my rope up like that at the end of the day!:)

Yes Paul, I know, I know. From now on I'll listen to everything you have to say and follow instructions. Well, most of it anyways. Actually, I'll probably still just pick and choose :)

I will definitely try the husqvarna hardhat swap. Thanks
