crane work

Years ago I used to tie in Ddrt to the crane tip (not the load line) and I disliked the way the piece would spin and get my line twisted around the cable (at times). I havent tried SRT on the crane yet for this reason. My crane op said though he had a guy doing it and it seemed to work out well, but Im not sold yet. Whats your method? Where are you tying in? Please share.

I almost always climb SRT on crane work. One of my favorites is hanging my saw on the tail of my rope (close to where I want to make my cut) and let it tend my slack as I climb to set my next choker. I love not having to carry the saw all over the tree with me.

going to have to try the saw trick, sounds like a winner. I use a Petzl RIG, so when I am hooked up to the crane it is still in a Dbrt fashion. As soon as I am in the canopy I am back onto SRT. I was thinking of trying out a choker tie in on the crane (may work seeing how I carry my rope with me in a rope bag when being placed into the canopy)ft. After being placed at my tie in point I would throw the bag to the side of the tree that will be last to be touched...... Thinking out loud so don't take the last as bible. One thing I do though(and may not be the best thing in case I get knocked out or need to be rescued) is my working end that I am on only goes down as far as my cuts reach. So my line while working is never touching the ground. I am still giving enough to get away from a bad pick just not to get to the ground. I feel ok doing this seeing how I always have a second climber on site with me. Also this helps with not having to move a lot of line around the tree if in need to pull it all to me.
