CRANE!! AM I DREAMING?

He's right, a rear mount would do so much more. And you would see a ROI much faster

Okay, Okay! I will keep with my idea to look at the two national 13105's. They are rear mount and have the cab. I have bought the wrong equipment in the past and it sucks. I know I want a rear mount. I was trying to talk myself into the altec because it was close by and an easy buy.

Royce,
I don't know your situation but I do know this to be fact in my life. Every time I settle for something because it easy, or less complicated, or because that is what I afford I end up regretting it in the end. I also seems to cost me more money to boot. I am not saying dive in head first but listen to you gut. On another forum a guy made the statement "if when you are signing the financing paperwork you aren't a good bit nauseous, you didn't buy enough" Those are not my words but they seem to make sense.

Dad always said he "Never saw the benefit from giving the benefit of a doubt" Always been happier buying what I wanted.....not what I could afford.

Royce, That works too, for sure. I thought there were comparable rear mounts discussed earlier, maybe not though.

Yeah, behind the cab you could crank out a lot of work. Heck, rent a big rear mount for the occasional job your cab mount can't handle.

No there are comparable rear mounts. There all just farther away and it takes time from my busy schedule to go and look at them. This one is one hour away and I have a relationship with the company selling the crane.
However, I think like what was mentioned above I want to buy the right crane the first time. For me, I think that is a rear mount with out and down outriggers. Much faster to set up and more sturdier.

Touche Touche! You are pretty correct about that. I have a rear mount log loader and there are so many days I wonder how I would have accomplished a job with out the rear mount. I image the crane would be the same way. But, nothings that says I can not work up to a rear mount. Get this one as a stepping stone?
Stepping Stone? I've heard you talk about buying the wrong equipment before. Get what you want because if you don't you'll have what 20+ hours into trying to sell your crane? Lose how many thousand dollars, then spent another 60+ hours looking at cranes, having one you find inspected, bringing it home ect...

Very sound advice. That is why I am posing here. You guys keep me honest. Your right thought. Just got off the phone with the accountant. She asked "you bought how many things last year and then sold them a few months later?" Nothing smaller than a 30 ton rear mount with at least 100' of live boom and 360 degree work area. I will not settle for less. Even if it means waiting.

Then you will have a kick ass, tree nuking machine.

I am ready to be that tree nuking machine!! My crew filled that chip truck 6 times today. Thats 96 yards of material. ( I know, I know, get a bigger truck, that's next)

Geez with the log truck already part of the fleet, you will be styling once the crane arrives.

30yard chip truck with air brakes? @ROYCE would you try to keep it under class a? Good luck with the crane man!

Time for more drivers....

I have not thought too hard about it. I would keep our current chip truck but add the larger capacity one for very large jobs. I would look for something in the 33K gvw range. Air brakes, but just a class B license. I want an older international with a DT 466. Mechanical, no computer. So something before 97. There are a few cheap cab and chassis. I could probably build the truck I want for not too much change$$

Yeah, my convoy of trucks rolling down the street. Add another 10 more tires to look after. I finish a large land clearing project this week then I am dedicating this next week to crane purchase. I want a crane by June 1st. That is the goal.

I agree about the rear mount. I bought a center mount and wish I had waited for a rear mount. 20 foot more reach and much more room to set down picks. Also less danger of working straight above. 360 load chart. Far superior for tree work.
