Compact Bulldog Bone

Yes, but only to a point. You could center yourself as long as the rope angles are the same (bisect is plumb). I probably seem to be splitting hairs, and if so I appologize, I just can't fully wrap my head around that design. I absolutely LOVE Rock Exotica products but that one seems to escape me.

I had never even thought of loading it on one of the side holes. I thought they were there for options while loaded on the center. For example, I use them for attaching a CE style lanyard or something like that and it still allows, for the most part, it to spin in line. If you load the Hydra on the side only it does what you'd expect and spins all wonky like...and your bridge slides against the inside wall. I just recently got the Hydra so I am learning as I go, but It seems to work really well on the bridge if you use the center hole for loading and the others for additional work positioning attachment points. I don't know how it would work for DRT though. If you attached the lines to either side, you are right, you would often be side loaded onto one side or the other.

On a separate note, my BB works wonders. I am having so much fun with this latest version (not that I wouldn't have had fun with the original versions too). It's getting even smoother as it breaks in. I only wish it wasn't so cold out...

This is my attempt to demonstrate the ability of this latest CBB. I know it's all been shown before and I am late to the game, but I wanted to make it clear that the Bone, or at least the latest version, works without a hitch...I mean, yeah without issue. I really like it on the Tachyon too. I tried it on Imori and it wasn't as smooth, but functioned well, all the same. Thank you Gordon! I don't think I will be able to stop praising Gordon for a job well done. Anyway, here is a video of me just quickly showing it off. Although I forgot to show the on/off which is one of its coolest abilities.

Thanks John, looks like you have the perfect combo of bollard and rope, these new Bones have a bit wider scallops in the arms which ease the installation of the rope into the Bone.

On another note, Flex your Bone was shipped today. I have the smallest bollard installed on yours, so if you find that it creeps when weighted then put the medium size bollard on instead.

Gordon is the man!!!
I ordered mine the 05th of Feb, and it got here in Italy on the 10th. Unfortunately I don't have it yet because it is stuck at customs for clearance...maybe in a week or two. I read this happens specially with USPS...it doesn't take long to reach countries abroad but then to process it it could take twice the time, on top of that you have to pay about 30% extra of duty taxes and other fees...Hey Gordon, ever thought considering Federal Express for shipping? A few times I ordered from 'treestuff' and stuff got here in a week, of course plus duty taxes...

After having read for days about the bone and dreaming to receive it ASAP I'm wondering how many of you bone users had forgotten about any other device for SRT considering the bone the best they'd ever tried...??? From what I see and read things like hitch hiker, hitch climber or any other system with a hitch could be just a device of the past...is it just so???

I'm sure they're all fine, but most need additional parts to make them work (and the Hitch Climber is just a special pulley - can't climb with that without hitch cord). The thing with the BDB is...ALL YOU NEED is a carabiner to attach it to your saddle. Oh, and a rope. But that's it. A beautiful thing! The importance of that doesn't really sink in until you've experienced it.

John, you been working in some Hackberry? How'd you scratch your face? Or did you make your wife angry? :)

I was pretty shore of that!!!
When I said hitch climber I meant like the pulley with the hitch and the stiff tether with the wrench set up...

I have climbed on all of the " multisenders " intended for SRWP. For me the two top choices are the compact BDB and the Hitch Hiker. Very different devices that are great at what they are capable of.

Received my Bone a few days ago and tried it yesterday for the first time with the 5/8" bollard. I weigh 165. Temperature was 12 F and wind was gusting to 20 mph, so it was a quick test. I let the bone and rope cold soak while I ate a sandwich.

Went up and down Sterling 7/16" HTP several times. Most of the time when I stopped, the bone would hold, but if I wiggled around or bounced a bit, it would start creeping down at a rate of about an inch or two per second. Sometimes it would stop on its own, other times it would gently lower me to the ground.

Then I went up and down Yale Poison Hi-vy 11.7 mm. It gripped better but I could still get it to slide by bouncing on it. When it did slide, it would stop after a few inches. I'm going to try both again with the 3/4" bollard, after I recover from my frostbite.

I like shiny things, but I love the rugged, coarse, hand built quality of this. I could see it - a hundred years from now - sitting on a table at a flea market or antique store, people examining it, wondering what the hell it is. If that bulldog were etched on it, they would really be confused.

Oh, and going up, the rope slid through the bone like poop through a goose.

No, I never get injured in trees!!??

Our tandem axle trailer blew a tire, and I was changing it on the side of the road in 5 degree weather. More specifically, I hit myself in the face with the tire iron while trying to pry our long bar out of the ice. :tonto: Glad we had a spare and I am fortunate that I was dressed to be outside in that weather. So no it's not a scratch, it's a blunt force wound. I hate ice... :frio:

why would anyone ddrt the bone when the whole concept is based on bennies of srt?
Vet, just think of a crane removal in which you want to go back and forth from DdRT (on the crane) to SRT (on the spar). This device works in either configuration without any changes except for where the standing end is anchored (to you or to the tree).

I was just out in Ohio and watched my friend Justin destroy a few dead trees off a K-Boom. He rocked the Bone in perfect fashion. This tool is really showing its promise.

It actually works really well in DdRT, it just needs a slick, low cost component kit to make the change from SRT to DdRT seamless. I'm working on that... ;)...along with another 1,000,000 things.
