Compact Bulldog Bone

Interesting about the slack tending on the Wish Bone. What line did you set it up on?

Runs very well 3/4 bollard required. Just about spot on when I'm releasing handle the slippage is minimal, couple inches if that. I always and only ever climbed RW SRT , so I have nothing to compare the bone other than that. On all the 11.7 Yale ropes I've used like in the pic or diff color variations the bone is very sensitive . I would say its a confident climbers tool , it can coast a little bit at certain times if the arms are moved just a little or bumped ,but it doesn't just take off on you , it takes that constant pressure on arms to stay moving .

'bout time Andre! :) you'll love it man. i've dialed it in on a few more ropes since we last talked. I can make it work for everything I want to climb with.

Anyone run it on velocity yet? I'm debating between it and a 11.7 yale for my next rope. I've been putting off a new line purchase way too long.

I'm a heavy weight if that matters.

Didn't you originally, Gordon?
Would need the largest bollard I believe.

Velocity is not a good choice with the Bone. it creeps with my 165 lbs., even with the largest bollard.

Vortex works good with no bollard but tends to give me trouble with the foot ascender. My pantin kicked out a lot on me.

Arrowfrog is on sale right now at treestuff. Yale 11.7.
150' @ 127.50 minus 14% (Black Friday Weekend Sale...code=THANKS) comes out to 150' @ $109.65.
Now how ya gonna beat that? :)

What ya think Gordon? I don't know much about body weight differences and how they affect the BDB performance. How much ya weigh JTree?

That's a good deal , I jumped on it as noted from pic of my after dinner turkey climb . and that rope literally glowed in the dark , very vibrant , and the bone was making sweet love to it doggy style .. Lol . ..I wasn't sure what a dog and a frog would make but its a good harmony ! I still get blown away by the bdb every time I use it ! I'm trying to save for another before I gotta wait in a line that goes round the earth , but with Xmas coming its better to give than receive dern it.:frenetico:

I also bought some of that .75 cent a foot tachyon. Is that a 3/4 bollard rope for the bone ?
yeah, there is a 3/4" (I think) but the 5/8" bollard & tachyon is the best combo for me yet.
lovin' me some cougar right now, just a tiny bit jerky on descent, and only when you're moving short distances. fine on a long drop. i think it's cause it's new. need to break it in a few more times.

Yeah, I'm eyeballing the arrowfrog. I had myself sold on it actually, until the last couple of days when Gordon mentioned:

It would seem that the range of ropes the Bone likes is approx. 11.5- 13mm depending on rope type and climbing weight. For a 11mm line it helps a bit to have no grooves on the inner sides of the arms and to be a lightweight.

And then flier mentioned:

A couple inches of sit back would be totally acceptable to me. However, my bone came with bevels on the inner arms (I'm assuming that's the grooves Gordon is referencing). Combine that with the fact that I weigh 220 out of the shower so a couple inches may be straight up creep for me.

I climb as a side gig right now, not as my main source of income, and with the holiday travel, I've been so busy (and this is embarrassing) that I haven't even had a chance to fly the bone yet on the only rope I've got hanging around as of right this second (arbormaster.....doubt if you must, but I make that rope sing with a wrench....bounce? Man, my TIP does that more often than not, so I don't even note if the rope does or not).

So that's the point I was at when I wrote the post above.....and asked about velocity instead of vortex by mistake, LOL. Why did they name 2 of their products such similar names anyway? I may just go ahead and pull the trigger on the arrowfrog. I can always just flip it for a small lose on treebay or save it back for wrenching.

On the other hand: as far as vortex vs. The pantin, I prefer the CMI foot ascenders, so that's a non issue with me. I always hated kicking out, and the extra weight...well, did I mention I weight 220 out of the shower and religiously wear steal shank ed boots to climb in? I don't feel any difference.

220lbs on arrowfrog doesn't worry me a bit, but Cipoletti (treetopflyer) should answer that since he has the arrowfrog.

my bdb has the bevels too. you might really like the vortex (i've been been confused by the similar names too). Vortex is fat, Velocity is skinny. i need to get a ct ascender.
