Compact Bulldog Bone

I also like to afford the splice some protection... from the mechanical device, the tree, etc. since it takes a beating by virtue of being on the end of the rope.
I prefer heat shrink tubing to duct tape, however... ;)

Ha - that looks pretty sweet actually. If I had some heat shrink (and a heat gun) - I'd do the same. Just using what I got for now. Is that clear heat shrink over some sort of red cover - with a label stuck in between? - Smart, clean, protected, identifiable.

Feel like I've been hogging this thread a bit too much recently. Will post better update in future - but for now; will say - first time on srt in workplace, and first time on CBB/full mechanical (it takes a minor leap of faith/trust after using a blakes for years) in workplace - one word for each... Awesome.

Well, I don't have a BDB... so... my bad. :muyenojado:

Yes, that's exactly what it is. Red shrink tubing, label, clear shrink tubing. Labels made with a P-Touch label maker (they're made by Brother). Don't buy the label cartridges from the local office supply store, though! Go online to P-Touch Direct and get them... much cheaper!

There are multiple labels on all the rope products... date included. Can't always see all the labels when I snap pics of the stuff, though. Good advice, though. :)

Here's other side, white label has date... pic is too fuzzy to read it, though.

...just a friendly suggestion...

Oh, that's how I took it... it's good advice. Just thought I'd show how I do it. I have label templates for DATE/LENGTH and for ROPE TYPE and so on.. that way I can make them up for different ropes a lot faster than doing the layout over each time.

I've even thought about making up log sheets and adding an identification number to the gear, and tracking how much it all gets used. I think for a big company, that might be a good idea. Probably overkill for me, though. I can pretty much remember how much use everything has gotten.

Hey have others experienced rope wear with the bdb? I haven't really used mine too much but every time there's little fibers and my tachyon has a little bit of fraying/fuzziness...,it's been awhile since I've read through this thread but don't remember this discussed at all. Should this be concerning...

I get a little of that sure. I think your pantin (or other toothed ascender) pulls the little fibres and then they accumulate on the bollard when you bomb down.
I've had it on cougar as well as tachyon.

Vet give us some feed back on how it works with that line. only heard of people using it with KMIII
I'm kinda all set with kernmantle lines for a lanyard after a rigging line melted on almost in half. not that the line is to blame for that, but I'm just all set.

Sure will. Gordon did not think it would work and the BOLA is special made for KMIII but until I order some I tried this and it worked in the garage maybe since it is stiff from lots of use.

I went through a few lines before I went to KM3, several failed. Several appeared to work until I got out of position and pushed back with my feet, then they would slip at various speeds and times. The KM3 was the one that I found stayed the most secure and consistent no matter what position I was in. Where I found the biggest problem with other lines was when I was hooked in and pushing back on the spikes to bring the saw around (not running and 2 feet off the ground) but it was very unnerving to have both hands on the saw and have the lanyard start slipping. That was enough for me and I ordered some KM3 right away. Problem solved.
