Compact Bulldog Bone

This certainly wasn't my original idea, but this is a cool way to set up the Bone Ddrt. The small prussic on the standing end of the line captures the bungee tether and keeps if from flopping around when pulling slack. Nice having virtually no sit back at all and tends great. Also the mini plate, helps to separate the lines nicely.

Also, notice that there is a 7/16" steel bollard on the outboard end of the upper friction link (Thanks Gordon). This seems to help the upper links on the bone act more like the rope wrench, putting extra friction up top. I have been using that with the 5/8" bollard on the Yale 11.7 for a month now and it works pretty darn good.

Mike that looks cool man. I've been thinking a lot about a DdRT setup with the BDB lately. Any chance you could take another pic with a little more light? I'm having a little trouble figuring out what's going on up top.

Someone else posted a video of virtually that same set-up, I just used the mini plate to separates those lines nicely. Eventually I'll get a nano for the bone and the set-up should be sweet.

Thanks Mike. I see now. In the first pic you didn't have the upper swing gate closed and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Do you have some rubber on it or something?

Yea, rubber, and the link was opened to show that there was a 7/16" steel bollard on the upper friction link. I could see how it got confusing.

I gotta get me some rubber and a steel bollard like that. Your Luna runs good with 5/8 and that installed on too hunh? Not like trying to wear a saka and a footie on same side or nunthin.

Well I took the my BDB to the 10th anniversary of the cutters and climbers event in Norfolk, UK. Along with the regular simulated work climb competitions there was a SRT masters style tree and a number of workshops. A couple of friends were running it so I went down as they were keen to have a go on the bone.

I think everyone who climbed on it asked how and where to get them from. I have a feeling Gordon there might be a number of orders coming through from the UK.

Now mine has worn in considerabley after nearly 4 months climbing it is perfect. There was a another bone onsite with a lot less climbing hours. The difference was quite a lot. Mine being a hell of a lot smoother.

Quick question though...

Has anyone actually worn out a bone yet and had to have replacement parts sent out?

I am punching 200lbs and climb pretty aggressively, contract climbing 5 or 6 days a week. I just don't want to wear the thing out.

I have a RR as well but have used it less than a handful of times. I just go back to the bone after getting frustrated.

Your input regarding how much wear helps smoothing things out is thought provoking.

I had been having the thoughts of getting a spine machined out of SS with the thought that it would help keeping it from wearing too much, HOWEVER, now after hearing that, I may wait for a little while until I feel the wear is perfect and then have a SS spine made to match the preworn spine. Thoughts Gordon?

Nice one Rich. I've just seen Adam's BDB tending video on Facebook.
Guess what I'll be buying next.

I have also found there is a bit of a break in period. The tending and descending on the bone has gotten smoother for me with a little time and wear.

The Bone is quite new still and it will wear out sooner or later. I have not had anyone ask for replacement parts to date. I have not tried SS on the spine, but know that the coefficient of friction is quite a bit less with SS than aluminum, which would likely adversely affect the grip of the Bone.

Cheers Gordon.

I'll just keep an eye on it and if it starts creeping then I will change bollards. If that doesn't work I will go on a diet and failing that I will just chop a leg off or something to save weight. ;)

Steve my one and only prototype that I have of the all mechanical SRT pulley/rack (made before any ZigZag was made public) is currently on loan.
