Commercial Eye and Eye Prusik Length

I've been curious about the spliced eye and eye (or 2-eye) prusiks that are available for purchase. Available lengths are typically 28" to 32" but I have seen 26" and 36". I have my tied HRC or beeline cord dialed in at 21" to 22" using a distel or knut on 1/2" rope. At that length they advance easy enough and always set on their own. They work on PI too. Is my cord excessively short or are these purchased cords only used for VT's and their variants? I admit I haven't spent a lot of time with other hitches. Also, why such a wide range of lengths?

why do some people like their butter on top of their bread? personally i like mine on the bottom. different stroke for different folks, you gotta find what grooves with your funk.

Exactly, if it works for you, why change it.

Bingo, I couldn't agree more. Personally I use a 34" eye-eye Spliced Ocean Polyester prusik that I tie with a VT and connect to my saddle using a HitchClimber pulley.

I never have cared for the length options they give you on those things, and they're too expensive to boot. Either splice your own or be happy with the double fishermans' terminations

Wait is this a "I'm worried mine is too short" type thing? Cause perhaps this isn't the right forum for that...

I'm with him, I buy bulk 3/8 Stable Braid dirt cheap, tie a new one whenever I need it. As for length, I find that different ropes and different wear will perform...differently. Same with weather, I've talked to other big fellahs who have the same experiance. I will bend the tress cord for my VT a bit differently with differing lines and conditions. When I find a length that works, I will approximate it with the next one.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to reconcile the VT "unsafe" thread with the fact that all commercial spliced products seem to be oriented to that hitch. Because they're way too long for the humble distel.

I set you up for that.
